THE WASHINGTON TIMES Hillary and Laura. The contrasts are endlessly striking: blonde versus brunette, policy wonk versus librarian, a betrayed wife versus America's mother. "If you ever wanted a contrast, you've got it with these two women," says Betty Winfield, a University of Missouri journalism professor.

It probable would have been more fitting to describe Hitlery as the "Anti-Laura" just as Satan is called the "anti-Christ." Other than that, I can't quibble too much with the comparisons made in the article.
What did you think of it? . . . Top

One word describes Laura Bush. That word is C-L-A-S-S!

I'm with you Retired. Just one question: What one word describes Hitlery?!
To: TheTopRead
Another important difference. Laura is pure class. Hillary is criminal scum.

What one word describes "hitlery?" TRASH
To: TheTopRead
It was a toss up for me: either
S-C-A-N-D-A-L-S or
S-K-A-N-K-L-E-S (That's S-K-A-N-K for short.)

In terms of its first ladies, Mrs. Bush has let America know the Bush years will be nothing like the Clinton years. Free at last. Free at last. Thank God Almighty we're free at last!!

Only 6 percent of those polled said Mrs. Bush had too much influence on the administration, compared with a 1993 Pew poll showing 40 percent thought Mrs. Clinton had too much influence. Those numbers tell me that she's getting all the influence she needs at home. Hill got nothing real from Bill so she had to go outside the relationship to prove to herself that she could be influential. (feminist role)
Laura Bush, on the other hand, and her confident silence says this, is probably the President's closest counselor. (independent role.) This makes her (one of) the most powerful insider(s) in the nation.

What one word describes Hitlery?!Although many words came to mind on this one, I am the kind of woman who doesn't use that kind of language...
However, EVIL might be pretty close.

**but how does one view a former librarian who has shied away from the public eye and hasn't had her own career since she married in 1977?**
Oh, but she *has* had a career...the most fulfilling type of career to be sure! She has been a helpmeet to her husband, a mother to her daughters, and a lady in all she has done.
Laura *chose* to be a homemaker..a respected and wonderful career choice, with amazing rewards. :o)

"Laura Bush gave speeches on education, but kept out of the limelight for the most part until September 11. Now she is out there more, but still she's in a helpmate role," Mrs. Bush is doing exactly what she should be doing. A helpmate role, as opposed to what? We elect a president, not co-presidents.

Mrs. Bush is just fantastic. She is mother to the nation, caring and loving. She is a model wife, a role model to other Americans as to what a perfect wife should be like. In no way do I feel that they have a "business arrangement" for a marriage as I felt and said in the past about the previous occupants. There is a strong bond there and it really shows. I'm glad too. Nothing like having real family values in the White House. May God bless them!
