Three is an "odd" formation; air defense alert birds are normally scrambled in pairs.

My neighbor who was walking his dog when I heard them overhead said there were two. I'm about halfway between Dulles and Reagan National. It's probably nothing but it is unusual. A few months ago when the Pentagon victims were being buried at Arlington, I saw what I thought to be a missing man formation fly over. That was months ago and the sky has settled down since then.

I can just picture you now. Sleeping in your lawn chair with beer can placed on your gut when all of a sudden JETS fly over and startle you and your dogs.
