You know what irritates me more than the violence and sex?

It is the idiocy, the classlessness, the lack of DIGNITY. My friends and I have a term for this kind of thing, we call it 'Gumby'. When something is gumby it is shamelessly retarded, juvenile. It is an orgy of self-degradation. It is like Gilligan on quaaludes. A horny Gilligan on quaaludes.

Its like in order to be on TV, you have to have a lobotomy, but not one where the result is you will stare off into space in a peaceful manner, but one where you become an annoying human clown.

TV idolizes stupidity, simpletons are its heros. Its dialog is obnoxiousness.

Here's my first letter to Procter and Gamble:

Dear Chrm. John E. Pepper, The modern experiment with "extreme sexuality" in our entertainment is very dangerous to the bedrock of our American society, the family. The not-so-subtle message in print, radio, and television programming and advertising is that sexual activity is the ultimate in self-fulfillment. This damages family relationships which are based on long-term, not short-term, goals and rewards.

I recognize that hair-care products are difficult to differentiate. However, your Herbal Essence commercials only add to the problems discussed above without really demonstrating the advantages of your product. It is unreasonable to equate the "organic" experience with the "orgasmic" behaviors of the actresses in the commercials. I am sure these ads promote your products, but they also promote an American ethic that is dangerous to who we are as a nation.

There must be a better way to promote hair-care products. Instead of following the modern trends that are destructive to our national identity, a company like Procter and Gamble is in a unique position to lead. You could provide a positive model to other advertisers, actually raising the bar in broadcast advertising if you will simply set a corporate direction to do so. In a time like this, when moral consciousness is at a low in our society, we need leaders, not followers. Will Procter and Gamble take the lead and pull these offensive ads?

I hope for a positive response from P&G. Your company has consistently presented itself as a family-friendly company and a leader in its marketplace. I hope it will act like one in this situation. I will make my future purchasing decisions based on your response. I look forward to hearing from you.
