This is somewhat repetitive and whiney, however its a good example of the general perception that Border Patrol Agents have of the INS.

I just showed this at lunch to a INS fellow.
He said "What crap!" "Is this from one of those anonymous vigilante hate groups?" "Not even the stupidest, or the brightest, INS wonk could make so many mistakes as this drivel."
Good lunch.

Believe me, the type of grammer you saw is quite common. Like I said previously, the article whines about some things such as pay, family sacrifices etc. I think we get paid well for what we actually do which is close to nothing. There are several facts in the article. It is a fact that large number of Agents are leaving the Patrol for the Air Marshals. I don't know if they are actually conducting Academy classes in Spanish. However, we do have trainees at my station right now that can barely speak english. I don't know how they even passed the entrance exam.

Rather than academy classes I meant to say hiring boards.

I just contacted one of our Agents that conducts hiring boards. He stated that hiring boards are not conducted in spanish.

Hopefully somebody will finger the Elian raiders after they get a job elsewhere.

I've worked in the Inspections Branch for 4 1/2 years, and a lot of what this letter says is true, at least for Inspections.
Management in the Inspections Branch is full of Immigrant Rights Activists. If we try to enforce the INA and do our jobs, management comes down hard.
I personally think Zigler is the best thing to happen to INS in a long time. Once this reorganization takes hold, I think a lot of the management problems will dissolve and the enforcement branch will be let lose to do its job. IMHO.

The INS is so corrupt and dysfunctional it should be abolished.

The sooner the borders are militarized and the Army Corps of Engineers builds a decent fence along both borders, the better.

This isn't a garden party down here on the frontier. Contrary to our government's insistence, the U.S./Mexican border is a hostile environment rife with corruption, violence, anger, poverty, aggression, and danger

Passage of that abomination will be tantamount to waving the white flag on illegal immigration.Bush put Zigler in the INS, and I'm sure he will do what Bush wants, but he does seem to think that the Law Enforcement Branch should be removed from the Service people and allowed to do it's job.
As for Amnesty, Bush will get it, unless Congress forces his hand. Which I doubt.

Interesting article. I think many people don't know how dangerous it's getting for the border patrol agents. Some of those drug importers are becoming desperate to bring in their shipments. I'd hate to be a border patrol agent at one of those more remote locations.

Remote location? Try imagining an attack on a border patrol helicopter that was landing, or being chased by cars full of Mexican soldiers and border patrol agents trying to kill you. That is happening, our border patrol is being attacked by elements in the Mexican government because Drug Lords have placed a $2,000.00 bounty on the head of each American agent killed.
To: MissAmericanPie
The drug lords are getting desperate. Increased inspections are making things a bit more difficult for them ---they just tried to get huge shipments over in Mexican passenger buses but were apprehended.

Drug Lord = Mexican Federal Judicial Policeman = Grupo Beta agent = Mexican Politician of any denomination.
And until the last ten years of border chaos, none of them ever would have dared to conduct the vicious little war that they are conducting on the border now.
To: Regulator
They feel that America has lost the will to deal with the illegal immigration problem and the border problem.

America needs a major ouster of liberals at all levels of government. The liberal/socialists infestation of our governmsnt and our institutions is rapidly destroying our country.
