Outrage from New Hampshire!
Our friends at sister site PoliticsNH.com brought this offensive political cartoon to our attention. It was drawn by Mike Mariand and printed in today's Concord Monitor.
We don't have a problem with those who criticize President George W. Bush. In fact, we've taken a few shots at the Commander-in-Chief ourselves, when we thought he deserved rebuke. But to use the horrific September 11th terrorist attack on the World Trade Center that killed almost 3,000 innocent civilians to make a political point about the president's budget is disgusting. If Mariand were drawing cartoons in 1941, would he have drawn President Franklin Roosevelt piloting one of the Japanese fighter planes that participated in the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor to convey his opinion on an issue of the day?
If you would like to tell the folks at the Concord Monitor what you think about their political cartoon, we urge you to e-mail Mark Travis, the editorial page editor at mtravis@cmonitor.com. (2/8)

Just plain sick. I have already sent a message over:
To Whom It May Concern,
As someone who watched in horror as the one of the jumbo jets flew directly over my apartment in the SoHo section of lower Manhattan and lost friends in its impact, your cartoon depicting President Bush flying a toy jet into a mock up of what was the World Trade Towers with Social Security written on them is absolutely sickening. What the hell are you thinking? I can't believe that your hatred of our President would lead you to this stupidity and gross insensitivity. There must be some form of mental disability that would lead you and your paper to depict our President and our beloved Towers in such a horrid fashion. If you were trying to be cute, you have failed miserably with this childish image.
My only hope is that your advertisers will punish you the same way you feel President Bush is punishing Social Security. I am sure that the citizens of Concord will deal with you accordingly as well.

They actually printed that? Yes. That is a direct scan from the newspaper. Beyond any belief. I wouldn't be surprised if members of the Concord community tear the paper a new one. Hopefully, we can get a list of their advertisers (if any are national) and inform them what their ad dollars are buying.

My main disagreement with President Bush is on the immigration issue. But with nearly everything else, including his conduct regarding the war, he's been excellent. Between him and algore it's no contest.
Liberals like this cartoonist are just jealous of Mr. Bush's popularity. They have nothing to offer but cheap shots.

I've been looking at the
Monitor Online and haven't found the cartoon, so I can't confirm that this story is accurate. If you'd like to write to the editor of the paper, here's the webpage containg the address:

Let's all contact these morons, and let's keep this bumped!

You're correct. It's as disgusting as the Chris Britt cartoon from the Tacoma News Tribune about a decade ago that showed and airline (I don't remember which) luggage carousel with the airline's name over it. The airline had recently had a disaster that resulted in many deaths. The carousel wasn't offloading luggage but coffins.

Another wacko leftist DemonRat charge. "Republicans want to starve children, poison the water" and now just terrorize and kill everyone in America.
To: John Jorsett
Two news organizations have confirmed the story and scanned the cartoon from the newspaper directly. This is real.

Just sent to him as well . . .
I can only say that if the tragedy of 9/11 now qualifies for comic humor in the form displayed by your newspaper then you sir are a spineless, emotionally retarded person. You're a disgrace to common decency.

Working on it...

What do we expect of liberal morons? Certainly not good taste.
When GWB was in Pittsburgh the other day, there was a group of about a dozen so-called anarchists (codeword for unwashed, braindead 20-year-olds) singing songs expressing hope that he choked on another pretzel. They'd probably find the cartoon terribly clever.
