[history]
The Washington Hilton staff had to bring out extra tables to accommodate the overflow crowd at commentator Cal Thomas's dinner for the media Wednesday night. The dinner is an annual event on the eve of the National Prayer Breakfast, and it has grown in popularity to the point where the turnout itself is significant. Nearly 200 people showed up, roughly half of them practicing journalists.

Until the Media Research Center awards, I had always seen Cal Thomas sitting in a chair. Didn't know he's 6'7" and played basketball.

I thought you folks might appreciate this story as evidence of the moving of the Holy Spirit in our land.

The aim is to reproduce the conditions under which Mr. Thomas himself became a Christian in 1973--by being exposed to "educated, talented professional journalists who have a relationship with God."Fantastic!! I didn't know this about Cal Thomas, but I'm not a bit surprised. He's wonderful!
Thank you for the ping, Miss Marple! It is indeed evidence of the work of the Holy Spirit in America. We've got to keep praying!

This is encouraging. I would have expected it of Cal Thomas, but was unaware of Barnes and Kondracke, and certainly am pleasantly surprised to hear of a number of D.C. journalists participating in a Bible study.

Look at this:
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (March 16, 1996) - Both keynote speakers, Fred Barnes of The Weekly Standard and Terry Mattingly, who writes a weekly religion column for Scripps-Howard News Service, told Christian collegiate journalists that Christians are needed in the mainstream media.
Speaking to a full house at the Regent University/ACCM Journalism Conference Friday night, Barnes said that the only way the negativity, cynicism and cruelty of the present media will change is if Christian journalists go into the mainstream media. rest of press release.

I've met Fred Barnes - in his church - was introduced as he handed me the bulletin at the door. He is a leader in his church. If you can believe it - I would describe it as an evangelical episcopal church - unique to say the least!
