SEATTLE - NBC News is reporting that the Space Needle in Seattle - a high-profile landmark in America's Pacific Northwest - was apparently a target for al-Qaida terrorists.
U.S. officials tell NBC News evidence found in Afghanistan uncovered plans to attack the high-profile Space Needle along with other monuments in Washington State, including massive hydroelectric dams, like the Grand Coulee.
According to the NBC News report, plans were also found that targeted the Los Angeles International Airport for a second time. An earlier plot to bomb the airport was foiled two years ago when convicted terrorist Ahmed Ressam was arrested crossing the border into the U.S. at Port Angeles, Washington.
NBC News added U.S. officials report American troops in Afghanistan have recovered designs and diagrams that target U.S. nuclear power plants and water facilities and surveillance photos of U.S. monuments and landmarks.
One plot apparently included an attack on the U.S. mint in Philadelphia.
President Bush revealed the deadly terrorist plots during his State of the Union speech Tuesday night.
The Grand Coulee Dam holds back 421 billion cubic feet of water "We have seen the depth of our enemies' hatred in video where they laugh about the loss of innocent life. And the depth of their hatred is equaled by the madness of the destruction they design, said Bush.
Algerian Ahmed Ressam, 34, was arrested in December of 1999 when he tried to cross the U.S-Canadian border at Port Angeles, Washington, with explosives in the trunk of his car. An investigation into his arrest uncovered a terrorist plot that targeted Los Angeles International Airport and implicated that the Space Needle as a potential target.
The incident incited a terrorism scare that prompted then Seattle Mayor Paul Schell to cancel the Space Needle New Years millennium celebrations at the Seattle Center, which drew as many as 40,000 people to its New Year's Eve party - one of the best turnouts ever.
After Ressams arrest, many questioned whether the Space Needle was a bonafide terrorist target. The evidence uncovered in Afghanistan now lends to some credence that the Space Needle was indeed a target.
Ressam was brought to trial and convicted in April of 2001. In an effort to reduce his 130-year prison term for his part in the terrorist plot, Ressam cooperated with authorities by providing crucial information about Zacarias Massaoui, the only person indicted in the September 11th attacks.
Ressam has told the FBI that he saw Moussaoui at a training camp they both attended a few years ago, the law enforcement official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. Moussaoui, a French citizen of Moroccan descent, is charged with conspiracy to murder thousands in connection with the Sept. 11 attacks.

You're right. If terrorist know we're
only looking at mideasterners, they'll use mules from other cultures. Mexican drug dealers have done this for years. Terrorist could do the same. Safety requires variable random checks of all passengers.
So, profiling works in SOME cases. But that nice little granny that people feel sorry for may be carrying a bomb, unknowingly. What if her granddaughter married a guy from Yemen? What if her grandson is looking both to collect an inheritance and blow up a plane?

I didn't say I was "writing off the crusades".
All I'm saying is that your attempt to draw a moral equivalency displays your willingness to use your appalling ignorance of history as a weapon to attack Christianity. You can't lump the Church in with Islam based on the Crusades any more than you can lump the USA in with the taliban based on the war on terror.
Slamming Christianity for responding to Islamic aggression/atrocities is no different that slamming the USA for doing the same with a smarmy "aren't governments fun?"

True, but the fact is the terrs are coming through Canada. Probably due to their lack of connections in Mexico, lack of ethnic citizens there, and perhaps the Federalis and locals would suspect them and watch them, rather than celebrate their appearance as "diversity."

With all due respect, if that's happy.....well, I hope I'm really sad all the days of my life. I will indeed be praying for your soul.
To: Brad's Gramma
Sheesh - I just read his rant on his homepage. He's a "happy camper" except for the seething anger at the rest of the people on the planet. Too much of a loon for me to waste time trying to convince of anything. Prayer - yes. Discussion - not hardly. Thanks for the heads up.

Ignore the anti-religious bigotry. Believers are happier, healthier, wealthier, and longer lived. The faithless will screw down their intellect so tight, it will self destruct.
Have a nice day, y'all!

Thanks for the heads up.No problem. Wasn't my idea though to check the profile...it was his! Makes a person shudder...

Fine, we know that the terrorist attackers were Arabs ( Egyptians and Saudis, for the most part ), that the al Qaeda bunch were / are Arabs, one idiot American, on cretin Austrailian, several English morons, and a few Canadians, originally from the Middle East, and that there are Afghanis, Pakistanis, and Fillipinos who long to murder us; but, hey, let's all be on the look out for Norwegians and Hungarians, instead. Profiling is SO useless, that that's why the police are never told that a perp is a heavy set , 5' 6" **** ( fill in the blank for race ) ,male, last seen wearing a green sweater. RIGHT ?

The topic is serious. However, on the other side of the coin, if the Space Needle goes down, then no one will have to wait 6-8 months for a reservation to eat in the restaurant.

I'm 33. I would probably really enjoy the stuff in the EMP but the thing looks like a classroom pull apart model heart. I'm 48. I've never been to the EMP either, I'll bet my wife and kids (17, 16 and 7) would love the 'experience'.
To: Brad's Gramma
Im going to agree with you guys on this one. Lets not forget the Timothy McVeighs of the world and others like him that would love to blow up, kill, or harm in any way our beautiful country and the citizens of it.

Judging by their photos, neither of them was average-looking and Reid was stopped because he was acting in a very agitated manner when questioned. The fact that the next day he was allowed to board the same flight speaks more to the stupidity of the security control people than it does about his looks.
