But you are wrong about the facts that the pilgrims did leave England and the Netherlands because of religious freedom, you can't dispel that.

I think you have me confused with someone else. My post only addressed the accuracy of the report as to whether or not Virginia's Standards of Learning teaches about Pilgrims.

And you missed the point of the posting which had to do with the removal of the founding fathers, AKA "old white men" and political correctness in our schools by so-called republicans. The civil war ended a long time ago, most of us, as immigrant Europeans who came in the late 1880's-1920's, were not even here at the time, it's time to end the war.

No, I didn't miss the point, I simply didn't comment on 'the point.' My post only addressed the accuracy of the report as to whether or not Virginia's Standards of Learning teaches about Pilgrims.

The article was talking about the State standards of Virginia. Have you read them? In NJ it may be in the core curriculum not to teach about the pilgrims but most districts do.

So, the article may be right. You will have to read the STATE standards of VA. True, your local school may teach about the Plymouth Pilgrims and your state curriculum guides may not.

My link on #38 leads to our state standards, officially called the Standards of Learning, where they speak to the subject of Pilgrims. They're all posted online. Yes, I've read them many times. In fact, I teach them.

They have been better in the past, and they still are a little bit better today. Unfortunately, many of today's Republicans are no different than the Democrats.

I can actually picture these people spending their afternoons chewing on windowsills painted with several layers of lead-based semi-gloss. Either that or we had babies being dropped on their heads during the '40's and '50's at an alarming rate.

I find this story absolutely unbelievable. If I lived in NJ I would have my kids in private school or be home-schooling them. Where do these nitwits think they got the freedom to act like illiterate fools? From the Constitution!

Another suggestion would be to get all conservative voters to vote against any candidate who doesn't advocate the dissolution of government schools. And then recall them if they don't deliver. Think that will fly either?

Absolutely not. 5 years ago, I joined The Alliance for Separation of School & State. I expected the concept to be a fairly easy sell. It isn't. The emotional attachment most have to public education is astounding. The School Choice movement is an important part of the GOP but it is not the mass movement I expected it to be by now.

The frustrating part is we are close. All we need is 20% or so of kids out of government schools and the system will begin to crumble by itself as every parent will know someone whose kids are getting a better education and what the same for their kids.

And this all started in a "Republican" administration, which compounds the problem. We now have a one-party system in NJ--the RINO/Democrat party.

The ones who think the 'dead white men', e.g. Washington and Jefferson, should not be included in a curriculum on history are probably the same ones who blew their stack when Kansas state board of education removed the requirement to teach evolution in schools and left it up to the individual school districts. The issue is the same - the teacher deciding what they will teach. Yet they would have an entirely different outlook on the two issues. It's not about teaching, it's about brainwashing.

Guess i won't move to New Jersey!

Is there any word on how they tell the kids how we got here if there is no mention of the Mayflower? Did the stork bring us or what?

Is it really dissolution of government schools you are wanting, or a change in the curricula and perhaps a ridding of school boards/administrations/teaching staff of the far left? If government schools were to suddenly be dissolved, what solution do you have for teaching kids?

You did not misunderstand me. I made myself clear.

If government schools were to suddenly be dissolved, what solution do you have for teaching kids?

In the first place, you inserted the word "suddenly", not I. In the second place you are assuming that someone is teaching (anything worthwhile)to these kids now. Bad assumption in many schools.

The freemarket and homeschooling can educate the kids in fairly short order once they are allowed to do so. I think you would be amazed at how quickly things would change in the absence of government force.
