If illegals can obtain base clearance to a highly-sensitive area like a nuclear sub base, things are in a bad state indeed.

You got that right! That's extremely discouraging! :( At least they got those...what else is out there I wonder?

That is nasty, toxic work as I recall. No wonder the contractor was using illegals. Once they get sick, he can ship 'em back home and order new ones.

exactly how is it nasty and toxic?

I've got base clearances for the local San Diego bases, and it's keyed to by Social Security number. The Navy security folks did a background check before I ever got those clearances. What I'd like to know is how an illegal passes a background check like this. If they can get in to a Navy base, an airport is a cinch.

Still feeling uppity, I see. But I agree with you.

You're sandblasting paint. The paints used on submarine hulls have some special properties (which I'm not at liberty to discuss). Those properties come at the price of the paint being very bad for you if inhaled--and respirators won't stop all of it, you need a "space suit."

Some of the materials on a sub's hull are toxic. Others become toxic if burned or overheated during removal. Application and removal are both processes where a careless, or untrained, worker can be exposed to toxic materials.

Bravo! Your anger is evident and rightly placed. I just hope the powers that be are taking care of these concerns behind the scenes. One can only hope.

All illegal aliens out!!!!!!!A fine sentiment. Question: are you willing to carry some form of identification that establishes your citizenship at all times? I don't mean a driver's license, I'm talking some heavy-duty smart-card technology, coupled with a national database of all identified persons.
If the answer is "no," then you're not serious about solving the illegal alien issue.

I don't know about the rest of you guys but I think this is hilarious. Uncle Sam paying illegals to clean our nukes. What a scream. I wonder if they vacuum the insides as well.
Oh well, at least the INS doing SOMETHING, ANYTHING about illegal aliens these days...

"exactly how is it nasty and toxic?" Marine paint is still lead based paint. Breathing sanded particle can kill ya quick without the proper safety equiptment. Lead is the only base that can protect against barnicles. They make it at American Chemet in Helena, Montana.
I believe Hiway paint is still lead based too.

Right now we surrender to the 10 kiloton blast that is about to take out one of our cities We are all waiting for the other shoe to drop. When it does, the Dept of Justice, the INS, and other agencies that deal with illegals are ready to roll. The country will be locked down tight as a drum and will stay that way for a long time. In addition, the military will be instructed to move to the next target on the list of 60 countries that are supporting terrorists. Anyone who doubts that we are at war will be awakened to reality immediately.

Sandblast grit and old paint are regarded as hazardous wastes. But then again, so is table salt.

Ditto...I work for a contractor here in San Diego. I could not even step foot inside the base w/o a clearance,
for which I had to fill out an extremely lengthy form and then wait several months to obtain the clearance.

I have to say that Bush is failing in his duty to protect this nation. All illegal aliens should have been rounded up and immediately deported months ago. I'm sure the reason he has not done this is because the liberals would crucify him if he did.
