The International Bible Society said Monday that America's best-selling modern Bible is about to get an update using gender-neutral wording, despite past criticism of that idea from conservative Christians.

The revision will be called "Today's New International Version," or TNIV. The original "New International Version," which has sold more than 150 million copies worldwide since 1978, will remain on the market.

Probably. I personally have no problem with the use of the terms 'mankind' or men to refer to a group. It should be noted, though that sometimes the bible is referring exclusively to men. As in "men, love your wives", for example and sometimes it is referring to all 'mankind' or all the people.

Most people can make the distinction based on the context. However, there are always exceptions. ;0)

I've seen and heard "progressive" protestants and Catholics (the phony pro-choice feminist practitioners) recite the Lord's Prayer beginning with "Our Father-mother, Who art in heaven....." This bible is aimed straight at that market. You better believe that, if it takes off, that God as "mother" thing will be in the next revision. ANd the diversity police will see to it that it gets as wide a distribution and consideration among the military as the Wiccan crap.

They sold this stupid idea as a 'marketing concept.' Dumb, really dumb. This concept is guaranteed to lose money.

The 'target market' has no interest in reading the Bible. Changing the words and altering the text in order to not 'offend' the public ..... is a magnificent waste of time.

You completely ignore the sociological ramifications of a broadly accepted female God. It has to do with matriarchal vs. patriarchal cultures. In all of history, no matriarchal culture is recorded as having ever advanced beyond mud huts and scavenging. All were conquered or assimilated. Take a look at feminist influence on modern civilization. The feminists would have us delivering meals and blankets to al Quaeda terrorists in hopes of appeasing them. They think that jihad - which endeavors to violently remove Western culture from the face of the earth - is all just a silly misunderstanding that can be fixed up by applying some common sense diversity training.
