Way too many vanity threads lately. And way too much trash being posted. Please try to stay on topic (politics). Also, please do a search on a significant word from the title of your article before posting. This will reduce the number of duplicates. And, along these same lines, please use the original titles on your article posts. Do NOT edit the titles. Do NOT use "My Title" titles. This will also help to reduce the number of duplicates.

And, whatever else you do, please DO NOT post from DEMOCRATS UNDERGROUND (or any other such trashy un-American socialist hangout). Free Republic was intended to be a socialist free zone. We've gone to a heck of a lot of trouble to make it that way. Why in the world would you think we would be interested in having their trash posted here?

And QUIT trashing each other. You know who you are. Knock it off! Way too many flamewars and feuds going on. And, while I'm thinking about it, QUIT trashing our conservative candidates. If you want to criticize someone's position on some policy, have at it. But do not trash or smear the man. That would include Browne, Buchanan, Bush, Keyes, et al, or whomever else may be your favorite trashee (examples listed in alphabetical sequence). The idea is to get more conservatives elected, not to trash the ones you don't like. If you want to trash someone, make it a Democrat. Thank you.

And QUIT dredging up old communist propaganda to smear our conservatives. Sheesh! Whatever else you may think about our guys, they did not hijack airliners full of people and crash them into buildings. No, my friends, not even the dreaded CIA. Anyone who would believe (or even suspect) that crap is no FReeper. I've been pulling this crap whenever I see it and several people have been banned for continuing to post it. I do not want it on Free Republic. Any current FR poster who believes this leftist propaganda, please logoff immediately, send me your resignation via email, and I will delete your account.

Oh well, another thread that went off topic. I agree that there is too much self criticism going on at FR. I believe that Jim is trying to do two things.

1. He is trying to guide the forum back to a true political activist purpose and get away from the internal squabbling. (it is true that we eat our own more-so than the dems)

2. He is getting the forum focused on the upcomming elections. There is so much at stake. The supreme court, the senate and the house. As well as governorships. This is our true purpose.

I have heard that there will be a "chat" environment for those who want to argue the pros and cons of leadership decisions and this is fine. But remember that the world is watching this forum now to get a feel for what the conservatives are up to. If all they see is bitter conflict then they know exactly what buttons to push to get us off message. This is what is happening now.IMHO.

This is pure democrap, my friend. Bush said exactly what he was going to do before the election. He said he was taking a third of the surplus and giving it back to the taxpayer. Another third would be spent on education and health, etc. The remaining third would go to reducing the deficit and emergency spending.

All this went bye,bye after 911. We will deficit spend until we rid the world of these scum. The democrats have hijacked the deficit issue to make political hay. They will soon jump on the talk circuits and say exactly what you are saying to win more seats in the congress. Dash has started the ball rolling! Well I confess to liking DU. Kinda' like the Springer Show. So bad that it is good. But I wonder where you draw the line on what being a "conservative" is?

I support the death penalty. I think able-bodied people on welfare ought to have to work. I think the Civil Rights movement has degenerated into a joke. I can't stand Clinton, Hillary, Feingold, Maxine Waters, Sheila Jackson Lee, Albright. I barf on Janet Reno. I do not like most political correctness. I think the role of gov't needs to be closely restricted. I think gov't is far too big and has far too much power. I hate NBC, CBS, CNN, Dan Rather etc. I think the media has a liberal bias. I like O'Reilly, FOX, etc. I am for a strong military. I think NOW is crap.

BUT---I think capitalism ought to be regulated. I believe in livable wages, increased minimum wages, unions (even though they have a bad side). I hate the bankruptcy reform bill. I think tort-reform is an abomination. I think big business has about the same potential to ruin people's lives as big gov't. I think Johnny Jihad is being rail-roaded. I have a very low opinion of Ashcroft, thus far. I think "liberal" judges protect constitutional rights more often than "strict constructionist" judges. I do not worship businessmen. I even left the GOP and became a democrat.

So am I still a "conservative"? I think so. parsy.

You got this right. Too many folks here think that the terms Republican and Conservative are interchangeable. In fact, not all Republicans are Conservative, and not all Conservatives are Republican.

Thanks for the message JimRob. It is always good to get a reminder. I have been sucked up into more than one "discussion" on here, that in reality was a thread started by a disruptor or troll. I apologize for wasting bandwidth replying to the likes of those trogloditic imbeciles.

Exactly. Sometimes we conservatives can be our own worst enemies.

With so many liberals today masquerading as conservatives in the GOP I don't see how not taking these individuals to task for their leftward leaning ideology does anything other than provide these liberals with political cover. Anyone astutely following the political scene for a number of years has undoubtedly observed the GOP's drift towards socialism. Being a Republican in these times can mean almost anything.
