Sometimes you let your passenger fling 'em--from the right hand side of the car(easier to do when it was just a quarter I actually got five nickels in from the passenger seat once. Of course it took about thirty tries. Lots of flashing lights and bells leading up to it.

I recently traveled across country and did not know how to open the gas cap!!!! Seriously!!!! Felt like a fool.
Who is the fool really, those of us that get out of the car to pump gas, or those of us that have people do it for them?

Does turning right in order to turn left count? See number 10...jug handles. I'm from South Jersey, now proud and grateful to be a Virginian. My ancestors came to VA in 1621...so I feel I'm where I belong. I always considered Jersey a great place to be... from.

and BTW...nobody I knew ever went to Wildwood! We always preferreed Sea Isle City or Ocean City...even Strathmere, but Wildwood was crummy.

Heh Heh, now you've got me! Was it on Allwood Road? It has been a while...! The HEARTH is still a great place! Used to go to the Red Chimney, too.

I had always heard that we "Bennies" where so named because of the large denomination bills we carried down the shore with us. "Bennie" Franklin as it were.

That,my friend, is a true accomplishment!
I love when people stop at the basket, throw in the toll, and then WAIT for the green light! Arrghh! I yell out"What are you waiting for? A prize?"
Hey, it makes me feel better.

"MONEY TALKS, NOBODY WALKS AT DENNISONS!"
that was their commercial on WABC.
Cousin Brucie is on CBS FM on Saturday doing the same stuff. So is Dan Ingram, and Harry Harrison. The great thing about New Jersey, is that old radio personalities never go away. Listening to CBS fM is like listening to ABC in it's prime!

THAT WAS YOU, REPUBMOMMY?!? Just kidding, I've been known to wait 15-20 seconds before honking.
As per my Freepname, it was a nickname I was given while I was a Marine. It's the only nickname I ever had and I love the City of Hoboken, so I kept the name.

The White Castle was in VERONA, not Cedar Grove, on the corner of Bloomfield Avenue and Route 23(Pompton Avenue)next to the REAL Claremont Diner! I am sad to report that the WC has been replaced by an Acura dealership. The HORROR of it all! If you remember that particular White Castle, then you remember the guy who we called Popeye, because he looked like a live Popeye. big forearms, and that ugly mug.

On business trips out of state where I would have to rent a car, I used to dread having to pump my own gas. It seemed every state had a different way of doing it--some you pay first, others you pay after. Then, operating the gas pump. So, I used to practice here at a local station.
Now, with the easy to use credit card pay at the pump, most of the hassle is gone. It's fun now.
What is strange is that even with having someone pumping your gas in Jersey, gas is cheaper than almost anywhere else.

...cruising Eagle Rock Reservation or Brookdale Park when people had *real* muscle cars..."Are you still in NJ? Have you seen the restaurant that has replaced that ugly graffiti, concession structure up there?

. You've been seriously injured at Action Park. The locals call it trAction Park. :-)

I moved out in 1985. My folks just retired and left. My sister and niece still live there. I used to skateboard down "Snake Hill" - the access road that went down the hill into theClair. I actually preferred it before the restaurant, at least the non-yuppie could park up there. After the restaurant went in, they blocked all the usual parking spots and the park became another one of those "managed" deals with some cop wandering around telling you to "keep moving." I was skateboarding up there the night of the '77 blackout in NYC. Pretty wierd sight with no lights.....

Ahhh, I could go for a couple of Rutt's "rippers" right about now. Chili's not too bad, either.
My late father-in-law's favorite greasy spoon. (Possibly some connection.)

Exit 144 (South Orange Ave in the Vailsburg section of Newark) had a toll booth, but it was never attended. If you did not have exact change, you were supposed to take a little envelope and mail a quarter to the state. The envelopes were NOT postage-paid. I wonder if anyone ever sent their quarters in? And if so, how many of those quarters made it into the state treasury, as opposed to someone's pocket?

Oh that brought back a memory! In '75, I came across the entry from Rt. 3 East to Parkway North. The toll was 10 cents. Found out I had no money, and it was an unattended booth. So I took an envelope. Mailed in the dime. Cost me 20 cents for the stamp. What the heck was I thinking?

Famous Ray's...was built in what used to be White Castle's upper parking lot, a while before the White Castle closed.
