Considering everyone ran off in different directions...they would be naturally missing. And the odds of some idiot staying...zero!

Fox News say's 100,000 HOMELESS. UN Says 40 Killed. Sounds like Drudge kinda got it wrong.

DRUDGE got it wrong alright. The article he linked to has '100,00 trapped...' in the title not '100,000 missing...'. BIG difference. I guess he felt that the fact that so many people are trapped just wasn't 'exciting' enough to be the lead story on his Drudge Report?

Just for perspective, we all thought that 50,000+ died from the WTC atrocity for days afterwards. Turned out the death toll was barely 2,000

Have they revised downward again? Last I saw it was 2889.

And does anyone have a link to a story on what's with that? Was there major fraud or major ineptitude or just lack of manpower to get the list correct?

I really feel bad for those folks in Congo, Volcanoes, Ebola, Civil War, Lousy thugs for leaders...what next? 100,000, it sounds like another Krakatoa. God, I thought I'd never live to see that...Proves mother nature has us beat in the Death and Destruction catagory by a country mile. At least that interstellar bit o' potential doomsday missed us..not by d**n much!

So what did the 9-11 victims, or the 6 Israelis, skimp on? Would you make jokes about them too?

Funny you mantion that. A Geologist in last sundays paper said that Haleakala is not extinct but just sleeping. I think that all the eruptions on the Big Isle of Hawaii are releasing a lot of the pressure way down there under the ocean. Kiluea has been going off for 18 years now without stop. A new volcano is coming up on the sea floor about 20 miles south of Hawaii. They say it will take about a thousand years to reach the surface. Not much chance of me taking pictures I guess.

"Don't you mean the Big Island? Thats the only place I know where lava crosses the road. BTW only two types of lava, a'a, and pahoehoe (a'a's the rough stuff). Pele's hair is windblown volcanic glass. As for the legend of Pele I have friends that swear they have seen her, but then again the pakalolo's pretty good on the Big Island. In ancient times Pele lived in Haleakala on Maui, she now lives in Kilauea on Hawaii."

Yes, Mensch, sorry...in my haste to remember the details (of which a few I forgot) I left out the part where we flew from Maui to the Big Island. Pele's hair...that's what I sat on, LOL...we heard lots of legends about Pele from our tour driver, which were truly fascinating. About her riding a horse; taking a ride in a man's car and then later he was saved because he didn't reject her because she had transformed herself into an old woman, etc etc. I also didn't take any chances and threw flowers into the big pit (if that's what you would call it) when we toured there. ;-) There was a rock, I remember...and I have a picture of it...where if you look close enough, you can see the face of a beautiful woman at one glance, then the face of an old woman the next. Do you know what I am talking about? Anyway...there was another legend that if Pele was angered she would throw "fireballs" into the sky..and if you were on a plane the pilot was suppossed to curse at it...which would make it miss. ?? That was the most ludicrous of them all...but the fact that I was taking a plane back to Maui that night had me looking all over the place for glowing fireballs aimed at our plane and I mentioned this to the captain who LOL'd, and rightly so..I still cussed the whole way back, just in case. ;-)

It was a wonderful day trip and very fascinating. The first stop was at the Falls...where unfortunately I got a sudden case of being afraid of heights and threw up. Then we went to the Macadamian Nut factory which was fun..but a little boring. We also took a horseback trip on a dormant volcano ON Maui which was neat until I learned that out of the 10 of us going on the trip, since I had ridden a horse more than once, I got the fastest horse. His name was Black Knight. No kidding...and I didn't have any problem with riding on sandy part of the ridge of the volcano until we got the a'a...and my horse had to go first after the guide's horse...I just closed my eyes and prayed as he made his way down a steep embankment. Of course the fact that my guide told me not to even TOUCH the reins did not help in the matter, LOL...but, we made it down and back up just fine and the horse and I became fast friends..all in all, it was a fascinating trip and I can't wait to go back.

Next in my series of Maui adventures will be the time I attempted to snorkel....*grins*

True. But if you will go to the earthquake site listed in the Drudge Report, it says that Mammoth is growing a teensy bit taller each year.

you could outrun the lava on foot

I think that depends on how long and how far the lava flowed and what you physical condition is. The world's fastest human in the 100 m. dash averages about 25 mph in track shoes on level ground running a straight path. Marathon runners average about 8 mph over the 26 miles. A four minute mile is about 15 mph. I can run about a 6 min mile or 10 mph. What I'm saying is that if the lava flowed long enough, I think most people would run out of gas at about the 2 mile mark where the lava would overtake them. Sort of like the tortoise and the hare with the lava being the tortoise and the humans being the hare.

We need to put up a big neon "no vacancy" sign here

I have a question. Suppose Iceland needed to be evacuted due to volcanic eruption. Would the no vacancy sign still be out ? Suppose a cold snap required evacuation of the nordic countries and canada due to advancing ice sheets? Would the no vacancy sign still be out ?

Or is the no vacancy sign out for only those of non European heritage ?

Okay, but can you see how your stance looks to a person of undesireable (african, mexican, arab, possibly asian) heritage. You are saying that people from Iceland are better than people from africa(mexico, arab countries and possibly asia too, I'm unsure about your feelings there). Whether you are right or wrong in your assessments about the superiority of Icelanders to africans and even possibly some european countries, this is the stuff from which wars come from.

Basically, you are saying "africans keep out, icelanders are ok" You can at least see how that would upset anyone of african heritage.

Well, if you are really interested in getting about astride large ruminants, may I suggest that on your next visit, you take the mule trail to Kalaupapa on Molokai. Thats real Hawaii.

Thanks...I'll mark that down on my list of things to do, LOL...while we were there, the trade winds were blowing the opposite direction that they usually do. Figures. Anyway, I remember laying by the hotel pool with my brother, and the waves started getting bigger and bigger and crashing up against the lava rock...finally, hotel management made us move because they were afraid we would get washed OFF that part of the pool area!!! ROFLOL!!! Then they finally got big enough to where they were actually IN THE POOL. We just made our way to the Tiki Bar....;-)

'They shouldn't have skimped at tossing in the virgins'.

I still think it was funny that was appropos AND humorous; if you don't, fine.

If you wish to smear me with jibes about 911...'bite me'. ;^)
