Some FReepers have nicks that are obvious in their origin, others don't. I've seen several that probably have interesting stories behind them.
I thought it would be cool to see where FReepers get their handles from. If you don't like this topic, DON'T POST HERE! No one forces you to read this. I'm sure other people may be interested. If I'm the only one, let me know so I can crawl away in shame.

No, riley is a chick. And a bad-ass one too, so watch your step! ;-) This Riley isn't a chick. And I'm the Ace of Spies. And so is my 17 lb house-lion.
Make of that what you will.

my screen name is my first name...Sonserae...which means "Morning Star" in Apache Indian. No, my mom and dad weren't hippies...and if they were, they'd be the most conservative hippies I've ever seen.

Until the guy with the sword gets really pi$$ed! My favorite scene is Indiana Jones unceremoniously shooting the guy threatening him with the sword in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Comes from the motto of a tank battalion I commanded once...in a history book they were referred to as being like the "Proud Legions" of ancient times.
To: billorites
I always thought your name was an abbreviation of "Bill of Rights."

I am curious. I can speak some rudimentary Apache but I am far, far from proficient. I have never heard Sonserae or anything close in Apache. It is far too melodic to be Athabaskan which is a harsh, guttural language. Could it be another Indian language? Or a rough derivative?

A classic, and exactly the example I meant to bring to mind!!

Cap'n Sam Bonney reportin' aboard... Welcome aboard matey!
Holy crap, I had no idea that this thread was still alive! this is the first bump I've seen for it.
To: MARTIAL MONK
The original spelling is Sonseeahray in Apache. I think she was an Indian Princess and her father was Chief Cochease (sp).
I'm not Apache...I'm mosty Cherokee...those names are even less melodic!

My son and I practice a Korean martial art called tang-soo-do which is a cousin to Tae-Kwon-Do. My son is a second degree black belt. Tang-Soo is used as a form of greeting and saying goodbye within our school and federations. With that being said "Tang-Soo!"

Me and LloydChristmas signed up on the same day. We picked those names because the men whose names we bear (from the movie
Dumb and Dumber) are our mentors.

Two kittens use a sleeping golden retriever named Toby as a warm, furry cat bed on a chilly Jan. 29 on George and Lois Schmid's farm near Red Oak, Iowa. Toby, 8, often allows the farmyard cats to use his body as a resting place, perhaps in part because they in turn help him ward off the cold.
