Some FReepers have nicks that are obvious in their origin, others don't. I've seen several that probably have interesting stories behind them.

I thought it would be cool to see where FReepers get their handles from. If you don't like this topic, DON'T POST HERE! No one forces you to read this. I'm sure other people may be interested. If I'm the only one, let me know so I can crawl away in shame.

,,, my brother served on board New Zealand Navy ships. The guys had terminology which eminated from the often confined environment in which they operated - as is probably the case with the US Navy.

When he brought a few of his mates home for dinner a couple of times, I recall being consumed with laughter, doubled over with tears running down my face as they recounted their gutter class experiences of overseas ports and towns. One of the terms I loved was "you're playing the shaggy eel". I never forgot this term, which refers to someone being evasive.

I've had the nickname E-Rock for about ten years, since about the time the late Eric Turner started with the Browns. Friends started using it, so I'm not sure if I had it before or after he started playing.

E Rock was taken when I first signed onto AOL, but E Rocc wasn't, so I changed the "official" spelling. I also lucked out on my Ohio license plates.

Mine is a nickname I fell into ... another forum had a wild discussion about something, and it was getting tense. Finally, someone posted the Elizabethan Insult List, which consisted of two columns of adjectives and a third column of nouns. "Bootless" was one of those adjectives. Turns out it means "useless", but I didn't learn that till last summer. :-)

Not much fame. It was for an obscure album in the "best contemporary folk" category. Mr Grammy was the recording engineer.
Of more importance are the grandbabies Clara and Christopher!!! Now THEY really rock.
