I personally don't give a DA** what THEY think.

"If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not your enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat." -Sun Tzu

Knowing what the enemy thinks and feels is essential to winning a war. "I don't give a damn" bravado does not. I don't mean to sound like I'm picking on you, but you need to understand that our behavior helps to determine how the enemy will act. National mourning over a single soldier makes us look like a bunch of pantywaists. While we shouldn't seek death for our soldiers, deaths happen in war. Those who put all of life on hold for a single man cannot win a war, or so it looks to their enemies. This one death cannot consume our national attention. We will lose this war if we cannot cope with combat deaths.

Are you Taliban?? Because you just don't get it!! And you sound like coward. (Your words are cowardly) Look up "coward" in the dictionary.

BTW,.. we will win against the Al Queda and Taliban. I have faith in our troops and President. You might do well to do the same!

I can assure you that the troops NOT ON THE FRONT LINES are mourning the loss of a fellow Soldier. And you know what?? The troops on the front lines have the strength and ability to set his death aside and continue to do thier jobs. They will mourn him in due time, when their job is done. When they aren't busy getting the enemy.. they will mourn him.

See the difference is they are on the front lines we are not. We HONOR our soldiers and agenst lives here in the USA. It doesn't make us weaker...as you seem to think, but stronger...

Maybe someday you will "get it". But after reading so many frantic paranoid posts on this thread by you..I won't hold my breath!

I really don't want to argue this on this thread. I'll say I DO understand the point you're making. Do you understand WE value life more that the Terrorists do. I think by definition, TERRORISTS don't, period.

I would leave the MILITARY with the task of finishing the job, well done so far, thank you Mr. President, Mr. Rumsfeld,
et al. . .

I think the issue you are addressing is a built-in media bias which is yet ANOTHER fight, separate from the War on
Terrorism. . .

TOUGH

While I heartily agree with - and live by the first rule of war: "know thine enemy"

WE WILL NOT CHANGE OUR BEHAVIOUR AS A NATION, AS A PEOPLE, AS A CULTURE TO FIT THE "SENSIBILITIES" OF SOME GOOFBALL WHO WANTS TO KILL US. THAT IS A FORM OF SURRENDER.

THAT IS NOT "KNOWING YOUR ENEMY."

I don't mean to sound insensitive, but... We are at war. We shouldn't drop everything and turn all of our attention to a single death like this. Such behavior emboldens our enemy. They see us get exercised over a single casualty and think "Look at the Americans. See how they weep and wail over a single man? They have no stomach for a fight. We can strike them and they will be afraid to strike back." A single trooper's death, while the end of the world to his family, should be a non-news event to the rest of us.

I agree with you. This obsession with someone getting injured or one death in a war is not a sign of strength on our part. Indeed, I've seen foreign press question our resolve, and say we were "lucky" this time to have ready-made foreign soldiers do our fighting. Indeed, Osama and his cohorts often talked about American's obsession with a few deaths, for example Somalia, and equated it with weakness and an implicit invitation to be attacked.

I understand where you are coming from in your post #56 but respectfully disagree. My son is still awaiting orders and I hope the people he will be rendering his services for will pause and reflect for him personally as well as the entire military if such a thing were to befall him. I will grieve and am already anxious for him but that doesn't show a sign of weakness but strength for with each infliction our country suffers, my convictions are strengthened. The more pounding my heart takes, the stronger it beats. I have never had such overwhelming feelings in my life and am sure there are others like me. God bless this person and our nation.
