If life is as precious to you as you claim, then should we be doing anything that invites further attacks and deaths?

We were attacked. The answer is Yes. To do otherwise would cause total chaos and more deaths of innocent people. Our troops know the risk they take. But if I and others can help it,..they will know before they go, that they are loved and their sacrifice did not go unnoticed. Honoring them, being Patriotic in support of them, and yes, even shedding a tear for their loss,.. is all the appropriate thing to do. We do NOT diminish them to "LESS than a human being" when they die for us. Their lives have value. We mourn their loss. It makes us stronger,... not weaker as you think.

I give you this quote to ponder;

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

~~ John Stuart Mill ~~

A better man than you and a few others died today.

As a Navy wife I'm still scared, even though I know my husband's on one of the safest damn places on this earth right now (a fast attack sub) currently on 6 month deployment.

I bet you are. People tend to forget the families left behind. Every time you hear those first reports that are so vague, I'm sure your heart drops and your on your knee's. Just know that there are multitudes of grateful Americans who are also praying for your husbands safe return. One death was to many...we will lose more, and our troops know that. They are the bravest of the brave. American hero's. We are just so thankful they are serving under a Commander in Chief they can respect and follow!! It makes a world of difference to a Soldier...

Let me also add, that I know how hard it is for you too. Stay strong, your strength gives your husband strength. All my POW's said the same thing. Thinking about their wives,.. and if they had them the kids; kept them sane. Gave them hope and the will to be on their toes, careful and to live.

Let us know when he gets home K?? Freepmail me or something. Or post it on the "USO Canteen" thread. I'm here to listen if you ever need a shoulder, to support.

God Bless you,..and please tell your husband we appreciate more than we can ever say,.. his service to our country!! I think of our military every day. We pray outloud for their safe return every day. I hope knowing that will give you comfort. Because we are only two of thousands sending prayers for their successful mission, and safe returns.

FRegards, Art and Mary Ann

"I hope his family get the attention and aid given to those of the WTC victims." Maybe it is time we common folks here take up the cause and make our own personal donation to this mans family. I really think if we all just took a little time and looked around on the net we could find his address and maybe even send the mans family some money. It sounds callous and like money for blood but this man made the ultimate sacrifice and even though no amount of money can repay him for this we could make life for his family bearable.

Sorry, but I have a hard time picturing her husband being in any danger from the Taliban. From what I understand, they don't have much anti-submarine capability.Maybe one guy with a Scuba mask who took swim lessons at a YMCA somewhere, and that's it. YOU are in more danger from them when you travel to work tomorrow than her husband is in his sub.

I would hope not. They have enough problems now without a whole army of scam artists descending on them to help them invest their donations, and make no mistake about it,this WOULD happen. This is besides the possible danger you would put the family in from Muslim nutcases living in the states.

and maybe even send the mans family some money.

There are several options available here. One is go to "http://teamhouse.tni.net",and click on their links page. The Special Forces Association has a link there,as does the Special Operations Association. I'd be shocked to hear that either of them didn't have a fund set up by tomorrow. SOA even has a scholarship program for the children of KIA Spec Ops guys. You can also go to the comments page and read the comments others have left there. I'm sure you will find somebody has already set up a fund. BTW,there are other SF web sites on the net,but I personally know the people who run this one.

Another option is to search the web for a OFFICIAL web page for the 5th Special Forces Group (his parent unit) at Ft.Campbell,Kentucky. I'm sure they will have details posted there for any accounts set up to help this family. If you have trouble finding it,see if Ft.Campbell itself has a web page, and check that out.

I think I may do a little nosing around myself, and create a thread dedicated to what I find.

You don't seem to be the brightest bulb on the tree, but I'll try this one more time, just for you...

  1. We are at war.
  2. People die in wars.
  3. Our enemy thinks that we are unwilling to lose people in battle. He thinks this due to our actions in place like Somalia and Lebanon.
  4. Regarding #3: He's wrong. We are willing to lose individuals to win the war.
  5. Because the enemy thinks that we are unwilling to take casualties, he planned to draw us into battle, inflict a few casualties, and send us scurrying home with our tails tucked between our legs.
  6. Our air campaign disrupted the enemy's plan. We did not engage him in a manner that would have allowed him to inflict casualties. He thus never had the chance to put his plan into motion.
  7. The ambush that killed this soldier was the first time that the enemy's battle plan could be put to the test.
  8. The enemy is now looking to see if that death will faze us.
    • If it does, then he will think that perhaps his original plan could work. He will then stage more ambushes.
    • If it does not seem to faze us, then perhaps he will abandon that plan and not stage more ambushes.
  9. Thanks to the media making this a front page story, we now appear to be shaken by this single casualty. (Yes, the enemy is looking at the Western press and he is using it to gauge our reaction to this.)
  10. The enemy may now think that his plan has a chance.
  11. More ambushes will result.
  12. More people will die.
Do you get it now?
