I like his advise. We should of put the UN in their place a long time ago. Too late now I'm afraid.
The conversation concerned the decision to seat China. If you listen to the tape you'll hear Reagan first state how we should just get the blank out of the UN.
Later he lays out how we could show are disapproval. First call G. H. Bush back and let them stew for awhile. Then send him back but refuse to ever take part in another vote. Again good advice.
One ominous note in this tape though. You can hear Nixon talking with Reagan about a boiling over India/Pakistan situation about 4:15 into the tape.

I thought Reagan was dumb and senile and couldn't think without a script from his advisers </ sarcasm>

Reagan had all the foresight, intellect, and quick thinking that the media constantly tries to squeeze out of goofs like Gore and Hillary.
I was a little too young at the time to see through the spin. But I'll never forgive the media for denying me this view of the man.
And I'll never be fooled into taking their opinion for fact again.

Very interesting! Cool to hear history in the making.

I was very young when RR was president, but I owe it to him for making me a Republican. He was the best President in my lifetime. I hope we have another president like him someday.

Oh man, that was great! Almost like being there.

Ronaldus Maximus is my hero. GWB is taking on many Reaganesque attitudes. He irritates the loony left almost as well as the Great One did. Hope he tells the UN to take a hike!

I saw this a few nights ago on Special Report when they played the tape. Extremely cool, and as true today as it was then.

We have to stay in the UN if only to veto them from doing anything.

Maybe but I think they would continue to exist and start passing socialist anti american and anti israel resolutions without the US being there to veto them. I could be wrong.

BTTT,
for those who have not seen or heard this yet.

Your welcome.
I first heard about it on Fox and was happy I found the C-span site so I could share the full tape.
I've found time and time again that when you catch a glimpse of Reagan in the presence of another you quickly come to see that Reagan was a far better man.
You can hear Nixon searching for a way to build power by consensus as if that were the solution.
But Reagan wanted to just do the right thing.
