The year was 1957. Monroe, N.C., was a rigidly segregated town where all levels of white society and government were dedicated to preserving the racial status quo. Blacks who dared to speak out were subject to brutal, sadistic violence.

It was common practice for convoys of Ku Klux Klan members to drive through black neighborhoods shooting in all directions. A black physician who owned a nice brick house on a main road was a frequent target of racist anger.

In the summer of 1957, a Klan motorcade sent to attack the house was met by a disciplined volley of rifle fire from a group of black veterans and NRA members led by civil rights activist Robert F. Williams.

Using military-surplus rifles from behind sandbag fortifications, the small band of freedom fighters drove off the larger force of Klansmen with no casualties reported on either side.

No idea, and it's not worth arguing with the moderator over. I am laughing about mine staying up though, although the Klan is an easy target and rightly so(BTW - IN THEIR FACE with CCW).

as are those who wave Confederate battle flags with feeling of nostalgia for the days of bondage and misery for large blocks of their fellow human beings.

i agree with your post with this exception...

there are some (and i'm in the west, not south) who fly the battle flag as an act
of solidarity with the meaning behind the 10th amendment, not racism.

i think your blanket condemnation of the flag is somewhat off center.

and yes, i understand this is a volatile issue to some.

The origin of the Klan appears to be completly foreign to you. (ie: you are an idiot) At the conclusion of the War Between the states (Civil War) all whites in the former Confederate states lost the right to vote. To keep it simple for you, the Whites could not elect sheriffs so they lost all law enforcement. A good sample of this is in the movie GONE WITH THE WIND. Inhabitants of "Shanty Town" (Blacks) attack Scarlit. Husband, Father, Friends arm thenselves an rid the community of this vermin. Just like your example of Black action in the 1920's. "Be careful not to muddy the water, you may have to drink it"!

Believe it or not, there are Black people who wave it too, because they are the descendents of Black soldiers (Free Men, if I'm not mistaken) who served in the Confederate Army). It was a strange and sad war, and a lot of the country's ills can be traced back to it.

In 1962, Negro was not Politically Incorrect. It was capitalized and was the Spanish word for.....Black.

Wrong! Northern vengence had no sympathy for the former Confederates. It took the election of 1872 to get the Union Army (the new sheriff) out of the former Confederate states. You may think that any white with a southern accent is automatically a bigot. Why would these people form vigilates if they had their own police? If you can still pay attention, Whites with a northern accent may, may, in the future do the same thing these post war southerners had to do.
