MEDIA BIAS: THE 2001 AWARDS
New York Post ^ | December 31, 2001

December 31, 2001 -- For 14 years now, the Media Research Center has been compiling its list of "notable quotables." The quotes come from prominent members of the mainstream news media and provide a clear window into the left-liberal mindset that pervades most of America's large news organizations. At the end of the year, the center - with help from a panel of outside judges - chooses the "best" notable quotables. This year's crop tellingly reveals the media's contemporary spirit and obsessions - which revolve, as usual, around contempt for all things conservative. Actually, the winners more or less explain themselves. Happy New Year!

Anyone ( if there's anyone left ) who doesn't believe in media prejudices need only look here:

-Media Research-free e-letter--

-Reed Irvine's Accuracy in Media--

-the Ben Franklin Foundation--

-Citizen's Coalition for Responsible Media--

and they'll get reams of bias... on the culprits' own words!

"What an exhilarating moment it must have been for [Hillary Clinton] - the first First Lady in history to be elected to public office. There, for all the nay-sayers to see, was the woman who had finally come into her own, free at last to be smart, outspoken, independent, and provocative, all qualities she had been forced as First Lady, to ?hide under a bushel.' Still she was voted one of America's most admired women. Just wait. You ain't seen nothin' yet." - "On My Mind" ABCNews.com commentary by ABC anchor Carole Simpson

Carole Simpson is a legend in her own mind only. It is obvious how she got her job, and she keeps it by kissing the right white Clymers. No one cares any longer what she lies about. Wonder if Bill "did" her?

The current issue of Newsweek has a full-page, year-end "Conventional Wisdom" [with the arrows up, down, sideways].

They give a thumbs up to Hillary for coming into her own as a Senator.

I hope you didn't contribute your own hard earned money to that rag by buying it.

Many here would never see these pieces of bias were it not for the efforts of organizations like MRC.

I thank Reed and Brent for absorbing such levels of toxin so that we don't have to.

Carve Clinton into Mount Rushmore Award

"Throughout his eight years in office, President Clinton warned us that the next great menace was international terrorism. . . . He also brought unprecedented prosperity to our nation, and because of that, President [Bush] can use the surplus Mr. Clinton left behind to pay for many of the nation's needs in this time of crisis. . . . This lecture series is about the human spirit. To me and millions of others, President Clinton has always personified that. He is the man from Hope, and that is what he has given us, hope. We miss him. Thank you, Mr. President."- Helen Thomas, former UPI White House reporter, introducing Clinton before Greater Washington Society of Association Executives. . .

Some of these are almost unbelievable.

I haven't watched network news for about 3 years now. No high mindedness on my own part, just an incompetent cable company.

So looking at some of these I am as Hillary would say "Shocked, and terribly disappointed "

"People send me e-mails full of dopey attacks – ‘I bet you’ve never written anything positive about a Republican in your whole life’ – obviously never having read any of the columns I wrote praising John McCain during the campaign."
– Newsweek’s Jonathan Alter, quoted by Washington Post media writer Howard Kurtz, June 4. [25]

"You know, the U.S. is the only industrialized nation, I didn’t know this until today, that doesn’t spend federal money promoting tourism. Do you think it should?"
– Question from NBC’s Katie Couric to Maryland Governor Parris Glendening on the October 1 Today. Glendening, a liberal Democrat, said no. [47]

"So, I’m getting less chips, paying the same amount of money. Is that legal for them to do this?"
– CBS’s Julie Chen questioning Carol Foreman Tucker of the Consumer Federation of America about companies charging the same price for smaller snack food packages, January 3 Early Show. [38]

"After pepperoni pizza and banana milkshakes once, I dreamed about Bill Clinton."
– Diane Sawyer talking with her Good Morning America co-host Charles Gibson about a study which claimed that Republicans have three times as many nightmares while they sleep as do Democrats, July 10. [27]

Charles Gibson: "Have you ever – it just occurred to me – have you ever, in the first hundred days, consulted or called former President Clinton?"
President Bush: "No, I haven’t."
Gibson: "To talk to him?"
President Bush: "No, I have not."
Gibson: "Don’t feel the need?"
– Exchange during taped interview aired on the April 25 Good Morning America. [47]

It's getting a little creepy out in lala-land.

How can people who's job is information, know so little about how 50% of the population feels? ( That 50% that's conservative...)

Return bump... the only people who don't believe there's tons of bias in the media.... ....is the Media themselves-- funny, huh?

One of those ABC babes asked Bush the very same thing at the ranch interview; he said, "Why would I?" and just died laughing.
