MIAMI (AP) -- Talk show host Rosie O'Donnell hosted a $250 per person fund-raiser Sunday for Janet Reno, the former U.S. attorney general and a Democratic candidate for governor.
``When I heard that she was running I called up her office and told her I would do any and everything I can,'' O'Donnell said.
O'Donnell was hoping to raise $50,000 for Reno, one of five Democrats attempting to unseat Gov. Jeb Bush.
Asked about her chances of defeating Bush, Reno said bluntly: ``I'm going to win.''
Both Reno and O'Donnell, a foster parent, said they shared a commitment to helping children.
``It's a big problem in the state of Florida. There are over 3,000 children today available for adoption, free for adoption in the state, in foster custody,'' O'Donnell said. ``Chances are they will age out of the system, they will go right into welfare and into prison, so we need to do better for this generation of kids.''
The comedian owns a home on Miami Beach's Star Island, a gated community of mansions along Biscayne Bay. The closed event was held at a private home.
Analysts said the appearance with O'Donnell could pose problems for Reno when she attempts to court voters in areas heavily composed of gun owners, sportsmen and military personnel.
``Anything that connects Reno to gun control means Democrats lose big in north Florida,'' said Susan MacManus, a political scientist at the University of South Florida in Tampa.
Seriously though, Janet Reno as Governor or Florida would be a disaster for the citizens of the state on the order of Hurricane Andrew! If the specter of Governor Reno doesn't get out the conservative vote in Florida nothing will! But be on the look-out for dirty tricks and massive voter fraud as in the presidential election.
Reno and Rosie are bull dykes.
I wonder which one leads when they dance.
Most likely Donna Shalala. Remember, it was Shalala - not Rosie - who moved to Dade County in the end days of the Klintons Regime, as soon as Jackboot Janet went there!
$250.00 a plate dinner? Isn't that typical fare for Rosie? That's no large sum. That's a Rosie super size. lol
We also have to keep our eyes on McBride's war chest. I think he's raising more dough and he's a scary, impersonal, Clinton kind of a guy. He is so arrogant that this will come across. No personal warmth there. We have to think about strategy against McBride too. Any dirt on him or just his ties to Washington because of his law firm. They are changing locations in downtown Tampa and even their press release about the move was arrogant and Clintonesque. This guy McBride is an uninteresting jerk. If you know someone who can investigate this guy's history, we need to dig up some dirt on him. Bill McBride, Holland Knight Law Firm (big) he's the Senior Partner over four floors of law firm. No class & arrogant like McAuliffe. And, now that I am done cutting the dems down to size, HAPPY AND A SAFE NEW YEAR. GOD BLESS AMERICA! Nancy
Now I like self deprecating humor but tthat is not what she does. If Rosie is a comedian then I'm Donna Brazile. When I see Rosie's magazine at the grocery store checkout, it is always a picture of a girl buddy of hers and she is lurking behind them. If I was one of her cover buddies, I'd ask her to get away from me and get out of camera range. It really looks creepy like "I'm sneaking up on you because it's MY MAGAZINE!" HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Whee! Who could take this chick seriously? She's a caricature of herself. Uglier than a goat's hindparts. Etc.
Those were ATF and INS agents, not soldiers. Still, damned sick that U.S. Federal officers were used to kidnap a child, survivor of an escape from a despotic hell-hole, viciously and callously sent back to one of the more slobbering slavemasters still existing....I do hope that condo commies have bad weather.
Parkinsons!
Janet "SHAKES THE CLOWN" Reno takes her show on the road!!
She's such a d*mn hypocrit.
Eventually, they'll go their separate ways, in a dispute over who gets to be on top.
On the other hand, it may be a good bet that no matter what ballot format they come up with there, the voters will still be confused.
