I did a search and did not come up with anything so if something similiar to this question has already been posted forgive me.
I'm writing a news essay and I would like to know what Freepers think the top news stories of 2001 were/are. Please include the month in which they occured if possible.
Jim please don't yank this. :-)

The third anniversary of the impeachment of Clinton by the US House of Representatives!

Yes on December 19, 2001 huge celebrations of the saving of equal justice under American law were held throughout the land!

All the cable media ran constant rebroadcasts of the 1998 proceedings; newspapers ran editorials and essays, politicians delivered homilies, and the whole world celebrated the anniversary of the rebuke of the only US president to try to block a Supreme Court ruling with his criminal acts against the very law he swore to uphold.

sigh...

Well hmmmm, just off the top of my head, in September, 4 planes crashed into the World Trade Center buildings, the Pentagon and in a field in western Pennsylvania. It was learned that this was the work of terrorists and followers of a Middle Eastern man named Osama Bin Laden.

You can add the Chandra Levy disappearance in May and the Gary Conditit investigation through the summer months.

Andrea Yates in June.

The Inauguration of President George W. Bush in January!!!!!

We all know the #1 story (9/11), and the #2 story (the war) that has spun off of it. Anything else is battling for 3rd.
