Where a poster simply is providing an Amazon (or other source) link to the author being discussed or the work being excerpted, I don't think that's out of bounds. In fact, I think it a nice gesture which those whose works we use for our discussions would appreciate.
In fact, I'd encourage folks to source their threads thus ... especially if it's a book review, discussion or lengthy excerpt.
Where the poster has absolutely no relationship save "fan" to the author or publisher or website, I don't see a problem in providing a link for others.

I'm trying to get a clarification to this.........
Please do not post advertising banners or links to sites selling products or services.

Agreed...in discussions of a book, Amazon is usually the most concise collection of information about it within one link.

Fair enough.
It's just that the post you used in your question was a perfect example of that courtesy I believe is DUE many of the sites, authors and publishing houses whose works we use for educational and discussion purposes here.
It's not so much a link to "buy BOOKS at Amazon", it's a link to find Barbara Olsen's book if you're interested in reading more.
I think there's a substantive distinction between touting Amazon and touting a particular book or author -- and the subject of the thread at hand -- which one can find at Amazon.

Two words: Pocket Fisherman.

I just went to the Amazon link and found plenty there in the way of reviews and reader comments to say that, with respect to that specific site, it is much more than a means by which to sell a product.........
To: Jim Robinson
Understood, thanks Jim.
You might want to talk to sirgawain in post #12.
