Jim:

Should I stop linking posts referencing a book to its amazon.com-specific book-page?

Thanks,

PB

No problem Jim, I don't think I have done that, except may have provided a link to a book at some time past. I will say that your requirement doesn't appear to make a lot of sense from a legal basis if whatever posters "sell" or link to do not result in a profit to Jim Robinson or FreeRepublic the corporation/company. Would you please drop a hint as to the basis for the requirement to not sell (or even link to sites that sell?) are? You of course don't "owe" anyone an explanation, but just letting you know some are curious. By the way, I do appreciate the work you do, and I guess I owe you in this regard! Thanks.

ATTENTION cheese and moose posters - Monty Python is not funny, except to those who have no real sense of humor. Big Hogging Graphics slow down my Internet modem connection bigtime, plus they are not funny either. Have a nice day, love ya, mean it...;)

Although I am international president of the Prevent Sun Burnout Society and we desperately need donations to keep out research going, I will refrain from soliciting funds here, even though this will mean the planet is doomed in, if I am correct in my calculations, 4.982 billion years. I cudda prevented it if you had let me solicit funds, but . . .

Question, Jim. One of the easiest ways to post an article is to do a right click on the original page, hit "View Source," then copy the code and paste it into the FR window. That sometimes results in transferring some ads, too, though many of those ads will not transfer. Is that OK?

What the people who are complaining about links to amazon.com may fail to realize is that Amazon regularly gives (perfectly legal) kickbacks to websites when people who buy something at Amazon surfed in via those websites. Though you do not have such a relationship with Amazon, you theoretically could and it would violate the non-profit status of this website.

As an alternative, is it OK for us to just type the URL of the book's Amazon page without actually linking to it?

Not to be a pain, but doesn't this mean NO links of any kind?

Maybe I am misinterpreting. Are you trying to prevent "over-the-top" hawking of wares, and prevent pulling banner ads in from outside sites? A total ban on links seems to be using too broad a brush.

Anyway, links are what makes the internet work. It seems counter-productive to go back to "link-less" days.

And if sirgawain's humor post above was the cause of his banishment, why is the post still there?

enquiring minds, etc etc ...

We all know that pulling the tigers tail is dangerous sport.

But do those who tweak a paper tigers tail deserve more than a paper cut?

Somehow I get pop-up ads here. I think this was one of the last places to be invaded.

I have a pop-up killer and I use ad-aware to get rid of all those little spyware "E.T.'s" that are always trying to phone home using my bandwidth. The situation on the net as a whole is degrading rapidly. I wish the advertiser knew how many people they were angering.
