So I guess they'll be using electric heat instead, generated at either nuclear or fossil-fuel-burning power plants. Good thinking, guys.

They're threatening that in my county too. A friend just bought a house with a "fake" fireplace, little gas jets. Very environmentally correct. But when the power went off overnight she just about froze to death.

They'll take my firewood away.........from my cold dead fingers!!

I'd like to see Beserkley banned. Or, at the very least, turned into a practice range for the Navy/Marine Corps.

This is funny. Back in the 70s and 80s, I heated my house with wood for a number of years. All the greenies at the time were heavily promoting wood-burning as an alternative to electricity, gas and oil, since wood is a renewable resource.

How times change!

Here's hoping Chez Panisse moves their wood burning oven to another town. As long as they remain in anti-American Berkeley, we have decided not to go. Too bad. We love really good food.

Heil Jami C. enviro-fascist! (psst ... they have smoke-free bars in Amherst, Mass, so don't give Berserkley any ideas.)

I'm sorry, Mr. Robinson...I know the rules about swearing and advocating violence but, Jami Caseber needs to have his ass kicked.

The smell, feel, and beauty of burning wood occupies a holy place in the human psyche.

Why anyone with an ounce of self respect or brains would choose to live there is beyond my ken.

Michael Gersick, a lobbyist for fireplace makers, said his industry clients would support emission limits for fireplaces.

What a moron.

"...said Gersick, who lives in the area.

Ahh, that explains it.

No more "wood fired" pizzas in Berkeley... they are part of an environmental crisis... I guess that means no more vegan pizzas for americas illiterati elites... ROFL... Absolutely priceless.

Rush was right... lefties really do go berserko when they are out of power...

Boy are these people crazy or what!It really gripes me when a handful of people tell the majority what to do.Gripes me even more when the majority let them do it.

I'm on my second 1/2 cord of oak and hickory. Makes for a beautiful and restful atmosphere, not to mention the crackling.

I hear the reason there are no old men in Berkeley is because they have a ban on old f*rts.

"Jami Caseber, a self-described environmental activist who pushed the ordinance, calls it merely "the first step to controlling or curtailing residential wood burning."

JUST another example of what one committed person can do, folks.

THAT is the lesson here.

Now, I do understand that Caseber, as a drooling, tree-hugging, Al Gore-sucking liberal, had "sympathetic ears" on the City Council. Still, if it works for libs, it works for US.

I'd like to see more Conservatives get up and push ordinances that we'd all like to see on the books.

I have no trouble believing this article. About ten years ago I was telling a group of people in San Francisco about having cut some trees down over the weekend up here in Washington State. I was really shocked by the horror I saw on their faces that I could be so backward thinking. Not only was I destroying the forests (this was alder, the weed of the forest that I thin every couple of years) and that I could be polluting the atmosphere (it rains a lot here so that really isn't a problem). At any rate, I learned that it is a topic best left not discussed in the Bay area.
