"But then I don't see marriage as a contract, I see it more as a covenant. "

Too many people think it is merely a legal document to circumvent.

"So, rather than work on establishing long-lasting friendships and relationships with women, these men figured they could fool around with a bunch of casual relationships until thirty or so when they figured they "could settle down." "

This is the feeling of both men and women today. They are less than desirable potential life partners. They are good for a temporary or casual relationship. Some might make it for a longer haul.

Yeah, right! Decent guys finish last. Personal observation indicates most women 'want' the bad boys yet will publicly profess to seek the decent guys

Whoa now, Not guilty!!.

Has it ever occurred to you chaps youre looking for the right girl in the wrong places?

I'm married to a great guy, but what's up with this "quality" men or women stuff? We're all God's children.

Was it an overseas base? When I was an Air Force brat in Germany, I was shocked by the pervasiveness of adultery. It was like Peyton Place.

I have a good friend from high school who is 34 (like me of course). He just broke up with a girlfriend of 2 years, who is nearing 30 and was begging him to marry her. He wasn't really clear about why he didn't want to marry her, but he just said he couldn't visualize spending the rest of his life with her. He is quite financially successful.

My wife was curious and questioned him further. He told her that he "really wanted a woman who read the New York Times, and she reads the New York Post", I guess he meant she was not intellectual enough. I told my wife that I think he's making a big mistake, and that any woman he marries who really likes reading the New York Times will probably be really annoying to live with. He also mentioned that she likes watching [immature?] dating shows. I guess I should tell my friend that since we have been married, my wife and I have developed a taste for the National Enquirer and we also like to watch shows like "Blind Date". Oh well.

I think my friend has a problem, but he doesn't know it yet. He will learn.

I think what this article neglects is that Americans can always find nice marriagable young women overseas, if they are willing to open their minds and be careful. I met my wife in Taiwan. It hasn't all been roses, but on balance it's been great. They don't have the same brand of women's lib in Taiwan; not to say my wife can't be hard, sometimes she morphs into Madame Nhu and rips my face off. It's a welcome change of pace.

People who worry about articles like this are looking for things to worry about, like trying to spot signs of global warming by reading the temperature outside each day.

Here's some advice along those lines: If you want sex more often, try pitching in with the dishes, putting the kids to bed, etc. so she has more energy at night.

As a result of the shrinking pickings, men seem more willing to date older women than they have been in the past.

This is interesting to me. Lately I have had offers from men from 19 - 25 asking me out. I am looking for a man over 46, and I have found it odd that the young ones would even bother with me. I had no idea that they were having such a hard time finding women.

Your friend may not be ready to marry. He is 34, and he has been fine with the single life so far. He might not marry, or he may simply wait until his forties. You mentioned that he is financially successful. He may not want to share that with someone else.

Yes, many men are deciding to marry a woman from another country. They feel these women make a better mate. There are problems with many American women these days. There are problems with many American men as well. The feminist movement has caused a rift between men and women in this country. It is unfortunate.

Quality stuff has been round now for a while , and that's what most people say these days

The bar that I referenced was near Washington D.C. I spent far too much time there. I like to dance and it had a lot of good dancers. The women going there were far more concerned about their looks than their reputations. But I've observed similar conduct elsewhere including small town clubs etc.

We may have gotten a little off subject. The article title was about the "Dwindling Supply of Bachelorettes." I haven't observed much change in the conduct of men in my adult life but women, in general, have. They have been "liberated." The "supply" of quality women has dwindled significantly. Finding a companion that we can trust and share life's good and bad times has always been a challenge. In today's culture, I expect finding a quality woman is something to really celebrate.

Your strategy is correct but logic can be improved. Sharing the responsibilities and work communicates that you care. That should be a normal practice and that alone can make your mate more receptive. Sharing the work and, at the same time, communicating that you want them is a sure winner. Just don't forget to start the dishwasher.

Well, you will probably meet like minded women at places you enjoy being. What kind of interests do you have? :-)

I agree and I have noticed when women have a affair they tend to fall in love and will abandon their marriage over it. When men have a affair it is just about getting laid and they are much less likely to abandon their marriage.
