Does she actually get Fox News? It's a great network, actually. It does tend toward flashier graphics, sound effects, etc., etc., but they DO cover stories and issues that the other networks wouldn't dare touch. That leads to their critics' sneering and snarling............but it's just jealousy, for FNC is kicking their collective butts in ratings in a MAJOR way.
I've had it now for about two years and just love it; hardly watch anything else on the tube.

I would say it is like the New York Post. Political coverage is excellent, but by golly they will drop everything if there is a car chase!! LOL!

The Shepard Smith (6 PM Central) format comes on a bit strong but that's the "wave of the future" for TV news according to the consultants.
* A consultant is like a guy who knows all the sexual positions of the Kama Sutra but doesn't know any women.
You can look for your local TV station newscasts to start looking more and more like that fast-paced (keep their attention) presentation. It is based on the attention span (or lack thereof) of the average viewer and how to deliver news to him in a way that he will still "get it".
For some, this may look like National Enquirer whereas in reality it more resembles radio when it made the switch from big band music to rock 'nb' roll format.

"Every quarter-hour he's on air, we get higher ratings," a Fox spokesman told us yesterday.
I love the Fox News Philosophy: Even though our reporter lies when he is on the air we don't care becasue we get higher ratings and the truth is not all that important. This sounds more like the philosophy of the National Enquirer.
FOX NEWS:
OUR REPORTERS LIE
WE DON'T CARE

They fill the bottom third of the screen with graphics. This means that much of what their cameramen think will be broadcast is never seen by the audience.
They also cover only one, maybe two stories at a time. They spend millions on studios and anchors, but they seem to have only about three actual reporters out in the real world gathering information.

Your sister is a well endocrinated leftist as a result of school, college and the alphabet networks.
I learned something from reading this thread though. Leftists drivel is apparently like a narcotic for some and any time they're taken off of it, they begin to puke with withdrawal.
Go puke somewhere else, or go get your fix from dan ratherbiased.

Hume, Snow and Cavuto are always great. Other than that, mostly trash.
By the way, this doesn't mean that they're any worse than the other news outfits.
To: cantfindagoodscreenname
Fox News comes as close to straight, honest news reporting as you are likely to find on television. By no means does that mean it is perfect or even near perfect it's just better than all the others IMHO!

My leftist sister said that, "Fox News is a dangerous, dangerous station."
I laugh every time I think about that. :-)

She's just parroting what she has been told.

Don't tell me she said this after the moose bit her, right?

If you read Bias by Bernard Goldberg you will see that the non-Fox media outlets have been full of sensationalism for years. The difference is that their sensationalism is about their pet causes, such as racism, AIDS and the homeless, and the leftist media believe that their noble goals justify their coverage.

FNC is far less left-biased than the other news outlets, while its presentation is more sensational.
There really is no contradiction there, I maintain. The Marxist news outlets cultivate an air of gravitas to enhance their credibility, credibility being the sine qua non of propaganda. FNC comes across as more sincere, IMHO; they don't feign impartiality between good and evil, or between the ridiculous and sublime.

It seems likely to me that your sister is just parroting what she has been told by other liberals, because Fox 's flaws aren't as bad as the flaws of other networks. But what you SHOULD do is ask her for SPECIFIC EXAMPLES of Fox's unsuitability and dangerousness -- if she can't give any than she is just a sheep, and if she does give some you will be able to show her that there are much more egregious examples on the other networks.

It's an asinine comment by your sister.
The other night I watched NBC's Brokaw for auld lang syne. He devoted about 5 minutes to a segment on how lot's of people want to get married because of 9-11. Stupid piece, but also an irreverent use of time in a world with so much happening.
Fox, meantime, was interviewing a military expert on search techniques and technology for locating BinLaden and his cohorts.
You tell me.....which was Nat'l Enquirer and which was news?

I like Fox, but I still cannot get over Whorealdo being on that network! Every time he is on, I hit the channel changer. I simply cannot be convinced Rivera is any good and it hurts Fox as a result.
Not that any of the other networks are anywhere near Fox. I do like the addition of the "network babes" however....and that is another matter altogether!
To: cantfindagoodscreenname
For an accurate representation of ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN v FoxNEWS, simply watch the 12 hours of reporting AFTER the Polls closed on Nov 2. Without a doubt, you will come away from that experience with the knowledge that ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN are horribly BIASED to the Left while FNC is politically centered in the middle. Of Course, another problem with Liberals is that they don't KNOW they are liberals (they're all in a severe case of 'denial').
