I posted this on another thread, and decided this is too good of an idea to let sit there. Here it is pretty much as originally posted.
How about a whole new idea for retail, the department store that sells ONLY goods made in the USA (and I mean the lower 48 plus Alaska and Hawaii, none of this "free trade zone" horsepucky). Every product sold there should have a tag on it showing what state it was made in and the name of the company that made it. Maybe even put up displays showing the people who worked on the products being sold. Give the people buying the products a sense of where they came from and why they should care.
I think a store like this could have a lot of appeal for a lot of people. I would like to think that a store like this could open up some opportunities for more American based businesses as well, giving them a retail outlet where their products have a major advantage over products made in other countries. Let the traitors shop at China-Mart, the rest of us could buy our goods at the "Made in the USA" store!
I like this idea a lot. Anybody out there with retail experience who knows how to make this work? I could be made very interested in investing in something like this if I thought there was a good management team willing to take it on.

So there it is as originally posted, more or less. How about it? What do all of you think of this? Would you be inclined to shop at a "Made in the USA" department store? Would you be inclined to invest in an idea like this? What would it take to make this happen in the real world? I would love to hear from all of you.

Thought this might be one to put on a ping list, although I'm not sure which one. What do you think?

Yes, yes, I know about this kind of thing, it's getting worse all of the time. This is why I'm proposing this idea. I don't even know if it is a new idea or what, but I like it a lot and I would like to see if it is possible to get other people interested in it as well.

Are there still products made here in the USA? Wouldnt the lack of products be the first problem?

No, believe it or not, there are still many things made in this country. I'm sure of it. Really I am.
Anybody want to throw me a lifeline here?

It will be a hit among consumers who enjoy paying twice as much for everything.
To: Billy_bob_bob
I'll do it as long as everything is made in the USA by actual US citizens ...

Yes, the items being sold will tend to cost more, but they will very often be goods that will last longer as well. I know I would happily pay twice as much for an item if I'm convinced it will last four times as long as the product that is made in China.
I will say that I'm disappointed by the people who have the attitude that anything made in the USA is going to be too expensive for anyone to want to buy. I believe there is no reason for American industry to just lie down and die because of the onslaught of products coming in that are made in China.
I'm convinced it is possible to fight back not only through policy and tariffs but through using automation that multiplies the efforts of the people on the manufacturing line. We are supposedly the technology leader of the world, let's start using that technology to start taking some of these markets back from the rest of the world.

Not only made in the USA...made in the USA with all components made/grown/originating in the USA, by workers who are US citizens. (None of the Tyson nonsense with illegals; no scouring the caves of Pakistan or whatever for cheap labor) All companies using made in the USA should have office supplies/furniture/technology made in the USA, did I leave anything out.
I'm not in retail, but I do my share of shopping, and I can tell those who are in retail that ALL of my purchases for gifts and for myself would go to such businesses. So, if some CEO out there is serious about making a profit, READ THIS THREAD!!!
Other thoughts...none of the cute tricks like setting up a separate division for the USA stores, and market your stock like crazy...it would be very popular.

--I've thought that was a good idea for a LONG time, and I got a twist for ya as well, have gas pumps out front that have ONLY US of A gasoline in them, whatever the price works out to, maybe even corn ethanol blends from anerican farmers. I know I'd pay more at the pump for non-islamic nutcase gas, and we B po' and stuff. And having that gas would be a good leader to get folks to stop into the store and check it out.
