ATTENTION TRAVELLERS: At Sea-Tac Airport in Seattle (and probably other airports across the country), every fifth passenger must remove his or her shoes for inspection at all entry checkpoints. This is really gonna speed things up for air travellers. Ah, yes, but we will all be safe now, right? More Christmas fun and government folly! Ho, ho, ho!

I think people wouldn't mind security measures so much if they made any sense. Such an arbitrary 'measure' as this accomplishes almost nothing, except unduly inconveniencing people. I agree with somebody on another thread...if this guy got on an airplane using a British passport with an English-sounding name, then Osama might've flown in on the Concorde using an American passport with the alias "Bob Smith"

Only 20% will be checked. A terrorist would have an 80% chance of getting explosive shoes on board the aircraft.

First of all, I don't consider this a "security measure". I consider it "harrassment" A "security" measure would consist of searching all the men of Middle Eastern descent. Not inconviencing granny.

Same here...except for a recognition that the "shoe-bomber" could have killed
everyone aboard Flight 63...
thanks to the French Authorities and AA Security being really "open-minded" and not using
profiling.
(One news report told about how a student from ultra-tolerant University of
California at Santa Barbara said she knew there was something really weird about the
"shoe-bomber" DURING BOARDING!")

An obious Middle Eastern nutjob with a false passport, scraggly beard and terminal BO smuggles a shoe bomb on board a jetliner and the response is to check the shoes of American-born WASPS. Makes sense to me.

I had to remove my shoes when I flew out of Sacramento on November 29th. Obviously, this threat has been out there a while.

I think they should do away with airport screening altogether and let people take their chances.

After a few more aircraft are flown into buildings maybe then some people wouldn't mind petty inconveniences considering the circumstances.

Right now, with the level (5) the airports are at, spot checking shoes is minor.

Maybe if the whiners had lost family in the WTC they wouldn't be bitching.

This is Sea-Tac airport. Security has been instructed to only pull old Jewish ladies out of line for inspection.

We wouldn't want to pull any Arabic looking people out of line and be accused of profiling.
