Curious About Freeper's Views Of Joyce Meyer

Is that the case with me over Joyce Meyer?

She seems pretty good at down-home preachin'. And while not a classic beauty, she yet ministers out a fair amount sex appeal, along with the word.

(I think, ultimately, it's those Texas/Missouri eyes.)

I post this to philosophy since, as I know she has a fair amount of, at least internet detractors, it yet seems that her ability to project the Word, is as anchored in the integrity of faith as any other TV preacher I can recall.

...Except perhaps the late Bishop Fulton J Sheen.

In short though, Meyer lately fascinates me, and I'm curious what other Freepers may think. Particularly Evangelicals!

Yes, this is true. What I do like about Joyce Meyer is she runs through the whole Bible, on say one topic, and backs that topic up with abundant scripture, not taken out of context. It's so easy, though, for preachers to run with just one scripture and twist it all around. The meaning they end up with has nothing to do with the chapter from which they pulled the verse.

I believe in the "faith movement" but not to the extremes that some teach it. I believe in biblical prosperity and seed sowing etc. But I believe that God has to lead you to the ministry or to the person in which to sow your seed. I believe in physical healing. I believe in the prophetic but always, and I mean ALWAYS, I line each ministers teachings up to the word. I don't discredit a man or woman for a mistake in a message. I do look for patterns of mistakes and then question their ministry's motives. I have listened to ministers from many denominations and who teach different doctrines. Some I have enjoyed some I have been disgusted by.

The pink haired lady channel kills me. I flip there sometimes just because it's like watching a train wreck. I saw a preacher crying "...giiive me the precious, give me the precious, it don't mean nothing til ya reach down deep to the precious...". I try very hard not to be judgemental. Especially towards those who preach God's word, but those people make it extremely difficult. The sad part is, the people sending their money in to them are the very ones listening instead of reading for themselves. God Bless them everyone.

You are referring to TBN. Jan and her pink hair. The sets of gold. I understand your reservation. I don't discount the entire network because of a few. I thoroughly enjoy John Hagee whose ministry is carried by that network. I also enjoy a young baptist preacher out of Geargia, I can't recall his name. Then there is Joel Osteen and Joyce Meyers. I have listened to many of the ministers on that network. I don't agree with or even like some of them but I will not discount the network as a whole for those on there who are preaching the sincere gospel. Tommy Tenney to me is a great teacher/minister. He is a frequent guest. I, like you, try not to be judgemental. The "send me your money" thing does bother me. Realizing that ministries do need supporting, I would rather have God prompt me to support a ministry rather than to be goaded into doing so by someone playing on my emotions.

I'm sorry. I shouldn't have made it sound as if I discount the whole network. I also watch John Hagee. He is one of my favorites. It just seems that most of the time when I flip there "pink" and crew are on. I catch Joyce Meyer and John Hagee on a different station. I think it might be the INSP network.

Therefore I doubt any to hold the exact correct interpitation of scripture beyond the Gospel of salvation which has survived intact.

*chuckle* I have to agree. I was rebuffed for using NIV translation because it wasn't the KJV....therefore deemed "unacceptable" and without merit...even though they both say the same thing. NIV is just a much clearer text without the "thees" and "thous".

I have a Hebrew/Greek Bible Dictionary that I reference when I'm stuck on something that "appears" to contradict another scripture. The scribes used words to describe events or conditions... that we didn't have reference for in the English language... so in translation, it got a bit muddy in some places.

I love to study the Word using various translations, concordances, historical documents, maps and dictionaries. It opens a whole new dimension and understanding into the Living Word.

Getting back to topic... this is another reason I like to listen to various ministers (including JM). It freshens the Word in my spirit to listen to different perspectives...and challenges me to seek out what I hear, in the Word of God.... or what I call "getting into the meat".

The thou's and thee's are a might confusing. Up till a couple of years ago I studied scripture daily. I've since then lost most of that ability as I can't concentrate enough to read but maybe a chapter now on a good day. That effects my reading of threads as well. Trying to listen on tape does the same thing. A physical condition that has hit my sensory system is the cause. I can hear and see but concentration is a cherished commidity now and not the norm for me. Ironically now that I finally have time to read and study I can't. But this thread got the wheels turning again so to speak. I can look up a refrence if needed as well.

If a preacher has been down a hard road of adversity and failure and can still preach the Gospel and use thoses trails as lessons to be taught others they have my attention. One who preaches peaches and cream Christianity doesn't. But that's me. Personal failures are there to learn from and to overcome to the Glory of GOD with his help. As in the case of Meyer she claims that very act. That is faith. Kind of like a song written by Kris Kristofferson. {No I don't agree with his political views} :>} called "Why Me Lord".

Try me Lord if you think there's a way I can try to repay all I've taken from you.

Maybe Lord I can show someone else what I've been through myself on my way back to you.

I would rather learn from someone who's big enough to admit they have had personal struggles which the Lord has helped them overcome than from someone who acts as though they've been pure they're whole life--God has said in our weakness is when He can be our strength. I remember once, when I returned to college with two small children, and was feeling frustrated with 4 classes to boot, I told God, I can't do this.....He said, I've been waiting for you to ask Me to help you, I never intended for you to do this alone. When we can admit we need His help, He does so much better in our lives.

Ah songs the praises we sing. Amazing Grace written by a tyrant slave ship Captain. I saw the light? Hank Williams wrote many Gospel songs actually and was not the model of Christianity. How many of these were written by persons at the bottom of their life? Probably more than we ever can realize. You can take a persons praises and enjoy them I very much disagree with Willie Nelsons lifestyle but still the album Troublemaker is a masterpiece of his work. Wille sings great Gospel.

I don't watch her. I'm old fashioned, dont like women at the pulpit or female announcers on football. other than that I love em. Would recommend though: Dr.James Kennedy of the Coral Ridge Ministries out of Ft. Lauderdale Fl. Sunday nights. He's a staunch fighter of abortion and helped the Judge that kept the Ten Commandments in his courtroom.

TBN has changed quite a bit. Some on there I don't listen to some I do. Hagee was one of the very few who was an outspoken critic of the corruption in the White House. For that his ministry has been attacked by both the IRS and Post Office. He is one of the fighters for school prayer as well. He will push the issue if a child wishes to write a school paper on a Biblical person. His humor is pretty good too he's serious but allows for us to look at our own failings in both a serious and humorous way.

Do you know that one of the heretical/aberrant doctrines he teaches is the "serpent seed" doctrine? Do you know what that is? If not, you might want to do a search on google.

It begins with angels in heaven coming down and having sex with women. It goes down hill from there.

Of course holding goofy beliefs like that is just fine ... as long as you don't attempt to teach others that it is a legitimate "Christian" belief.

I went through nursing school in the same position. I was scared to death that I'd never make it... since I passed High School, by the skin of my teeth. God called me into nursing.. so I put it in His hands, prayed over every test..and graduated with scholastic honors. (Now THAT...is a MIRACLE!!) *chuckle*

I didn't have time in those days to eat and sleep... much less be involved in church activities... so I depended quite heavily on those old heretic evangelists to keep me going through the rough times. (/sarcasm)

I read it and the refrences is to the Jim Jones type WHO PREACH IMMORAL ACTS not those who have a legitimate misread of scripture. That was happening during that time and Paul warmned of it. Do we sin even more so GOD's grace will be more? Get the idea now? You say one thing however Jude said quite another.
