Curious About Freeper's Views Of Joyce Meyer

"You got me plum-hypnotized," Elmer Gantry says to Sister Sharon Falconer in that film/novel.

Is that the case with me over Joyce Meyer?

She seems pretty good at down-home preachin'. And while not a classic beauty, she yet ministers out a fair amount sex appeal, along with the word.

(I think, ultimately, it's those Texas/Missouri eyes.)

I post this to philosophy since, as I know she has a fair amount of, at least internet detractors, it yet seems that her ability to project the Word, is as anchored in the integrity of faith as any other TV preacher I can recall.

...Except perhaps the late Bishop Fulton J Sheen.

In short though, Meyer lately fascinates me, and I'm curious what other Freepers may think. Particularly Evangelicals!

Thanks, and Merry Christmas to All!

I'm by no means trying to divide the body, however speaking things into existence, which she advocates, comes from new age teachings about the power of the mind.

Honestly, most of the old-time faith teachers have moved on. When oneis peaking and believing for God's will, I don't see room to call that New Age.

Here is something to consider; maybe New Age is attempting to mock Christianity?

Trust me when I say this-I am not one of those "name it and claim it" Christians. I've heard that teaching, and it doesn't take long to see that some are using the Gospel entirely for personal gain. I'll never argue that.

I do not see this with her. She is very strong in the word, and has a ton of wisdom. Her teachings are more practical than most any teacher in the Christian family.

I have seen Joyce every year for the past three years in Houston. I have read several of her books and I used to listen to her on TV daily. She speaks with a Bible open in front of her the whole time and quotes from the Bible every other sentence. She is not new age and even laughs at new agers. She has been consistent all these years in her message. You can order books or tapes on her web page. Why not check her out rather than dissing her. She is a high quality, patriotic American and truthful human being.

I've only listened to her less then a dozen times, so I would not be serving the truth by going into any detail about her teachings. Some flags just go up with that theology.

I doubt new age is copying christianity because Faith teachings did not show up until this century, after new age was born.

I believe that New Age has been around much longer, but by other names.

One thing that we overlook about Eve eating the forbidden fruit is that she did so because the serpent told her that she would be like God.

That is the real essence of the New Age Movement. Nothing new, really...

You want an Example? everytime she OPENS HER MOUTH she is totally new age. Just because she says a few "bible phrases" doesn't mean she is teaching bible truths. Open your KJV 1611 AV and read it for yourself. She's counting on biblically ignorant folks who are too lazy to study the Holy Scriptures for themselves. Also, the bible states that a women is not to preach because Eve was the one deceived, not Adam. The devil always comes through a women in the pulpit. She is decieved on that premise alone, not to mention all her "new age philosophies" she teaches. Like I said, if those kind of "motivational speakers" are for you, have at um... its a free country. But she IS biblically ignorant.

Some would rather dis another simply because they don't teach the way that they've heard it. Instead of being open and comparing it to what he already knows, some find it much more doctrinal to just dismiss the teaching.

Recommend you do a Google Search on the woman, including the word charismatics in your search, and read the pros and cons.

The lie hasn't changed much has it. :-) No but the idea that we create out own reality is more recent. Buttressed by recent findings in quatum physcis. You are right, the Satanic lie is just more refined for our times.

She seems like she'd make a good dominatrix if she were "in the world" so to speak.

I have rarely ever seen this woman, as I don't normally watch TV, but the first time I heard her on the radio, I thought it was a man with a sort of high-pitched voice. I wouldn't be surprised if she "wears the pants'" in her family. Nothing wrong with a "strong woman" in the household if the man can handle it. Some men even prefer the woman to run things.

At least she doesn't scream at me through the radio speaker the way Tony Evans does.

I have already asked for an example, but surely there will not be one.

The woman has more widsdom under her fingernail than both us us will ever have in whole persons.

I also know that she loves Jesus, and is not ashamed to say it. I am amaazed that most Christians don't publicly tell people that they LOVE Jesus.

Also, the bible states that a women is not to preach because Eve was the one deceived, not Adam.

Actually, the bible tells us that women should not teach men. Also, she is not the pastor of her church. She promotes herself to women, as do others. They are public meetings, and men are allowed to attend.

More than anything, she is a counselor. That is why people long to hear her.

A counter caveat. Word of faith is excellent. I highly recommend it. Of course, people who are not "of faith" can do as they please. As for Joyce, she explains scripture in practical, and useful illustrations. A good teacher.

"If we learn to deal with the small things that bug us, how much better can we deal with those who are hard to love?"
Can you give an example of Jesus dealing with any of the issues such as "spilling coffee and getting mad," or a "bad hair day"? I have not found any Scripture for these issues.
Joyce is still in Kindergarden herself. She has just found her nich with selfish American "soccer moms."

I wonder if we ever know our faith until it's tested.
Do you call keeping your cool with a bad waitress a test?

See, Joe, you missed her whole point. Jesus said the "little foxes spoil the vines." Joyce says that you cannot cast out demons if you don't have control over a sink full of dirty dishes. That is PERFECT advice and is far from "soft" Christianity. Quite the contrary, she (and all other Word of Faith teachers I've heard---dunno who you listen to) HARP on discipline in ALL things. I don't see any way shape or form that this is "soft" or easy.

If you take any time to listen to Fred Price explain how he got to where he is, faith-wise, he takes great pains to explain how he gets up at 5:00 to pray for 1 1/2 hours! Now, that's not to pat him on the back, but I see Max Lucado, one of the favorites of the "deny yourself" crowd admit that he only prays 1/2 hour. Again, this isn't a "comparison" of prayer time, but only examples. I just don't get this notion that "faith" people have it easy. I could tell you what I do daily---it isn't enough, but it is COMPLETELY the reason I receive from God what I do receive.
