China continued to supply arms to Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda terrorist even after the group began the September 11 attack on America, says a senior U.S. official.

The official said that a week after the terrorist attack, the ruling Taliban and the al Qaeda fighters embedded among them, received a shipment of Chinese-made SA-7 missiles. The shoulder-fired anti-aircraft weapons are similar to the U.S. Stinger.

If the Taliban have working SA-7's, why haven't they used any of them?

Why would China do anything else? They have been led by the Clinton Administration to ignore any public threats we make. As long as they contributed to the Klintoons' campaigns, the Chinese could do whatever they wanted. How many secrets of state did you sell to the Chinese, Slick Willy?

Same as there is a port in Chicago or any other city. The answer is, yes. A port city. And if not one in Afghanistan, then one in a nearby country, which increase the shipping time involved and adds to my original point.

I already do and let me tell ya...the hardest part was buying new running shoes the other day. I have been looking for a new pair for months and finally found a pair of NEW BALANCE that are MADE IN THE USA!!! I had to pay more, but it was worth it. Plus, I got to explain to all the Foot Locker, Athletes Foot & other shoe store employees just why I couldn't buy "Made in China" shoes. One emploee even told me that a few other customers had mentioned similar buying practices.

If enough people boycott & make it known to shop owners/workers why....it could have an impact.

Ummm, how did they SAIL to Afghanistan?

My guess is that this could take just a matter of days, given that China and Afghanistan share a border.

A wrinkle- what if China knew about the attacks ahead of time and armed the al-Qaida in anticipation of a US attack?

"...finally found a pair of NEW BALANCE that are MADE IN THE USA!!!"

Hate to break the news to ya, but most of the dry goods and hardware labeled "Made in the U.S.A." is still manufactured and partially assembled in China and other low wage countries. Then the finishing touches... sometimes meaning the stupid "Made in the USA" label itself, along with the manufacturer's label, is glued or sewn on in American shops. This allows manufacturers to legally get around the import/export labeling regulations and allows the foreign country to avoid any tariffs that were set up to appease the American labor unions.

I was amazed at the stuff I could buy in the night markets of Taiwan and Hong Kong that was supposed to be "American Made." The most disappointing was the "Made in the USA" MagLite flashlites, sold unassembled in plastic bags.

A lie told often enough takes on a ring of the truth.

Please explain why China also signed agreements with the Taliban on the day of the attack.

China did not sign the agreements with the Taliban on the day of the attack. This was another deceptive story that ignored something called the international date line and the fact that time in China is one day ahead of the U.S.

September 11 in China was September 10 in the U.S.

This is another example of either sloppy reporting or purposeful deception. Either way, look at the effect. You and many others read this and believe it. It then gets cited in debate - as you have done here. But it is not true and a critical careful reading of the news will point this out.

I now raise the question, does a newsperson covering international affairs know about the international date line and that China is one day ahead of us (generally speaking). I say of course he does. SO why did he write China signed the agreement you mention on the same day of the attacks? If you don't beleive the reporters are that stupid, then they are purposly deceiving their readers.

I'd say it's not unusual to find al Qaeda and the Taliban obtained Chinese made arms or other goods. After all, the Taliban is not known to be able to manufacture anything. Have you seen the Japanese vehicles they use? Where do you think they got their ammunitions? I'd say mostly from US and Russia. Some from China and Pakistan. I guess when Rumsfeld was saying 'interesting', he was not implying that maybe the Taliban got help from China, but how come some Chinese arms dealers got ahead of American ones.

Ummm... Chicago DOES have oceangoing vessels docking there. Afghanistan does not. Vessels from around the world can go as far inland as Duluth, MN.

A port is shipping is not reference to a city with a water mass near it. Kansas City has an port of entry. Come on, let's stick with the point and stop the obfuscation.

Anyone who thinks the Red Chinese are our pals had better think again. Sure, we are a top trading partner, however, they want us totally out of Asia and the far east so they can rule that entire region of the world. They want to rule from China, across Japan, the Koreas, down to the tip of the Aussies. They would move on India also. The Chinese are now the Soviet Union of the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s. And, they are much more dangerous.

China has the neutron bomb.

China closely supports Iraq and AlQaeda. Bin Laden gave two US cruise missiles to China after 1998.

Red mercury used in making miniaturized neutron bombs (baseball sized)was found in Iraq by UN weapons inspectors.

It is very possible that China has helped Iraq develop a neutron bomb and that Iraq could give a suitcase neutron bomb to AlQaeda and Bin Laden to bring into the US. China for that matter could also directly give a suitcase sized neutron bomb to AlQaeda and Bin LAden.

If China did sell arms to the Taliban, how can we condemn them? We set the policy of trading with them in spite of knowing they are using our balance of trade to build up their armed forces to use against us. What goes around comes around. What other country on earth is crazy enough to subsidize their enemies in this fashion?
