-SNIP-Ominously, the Abu Dhabi series reflects the mainstreaming of anti-Semitism across the Arab world. Saudi Arabian and Egyptian TV are debating whether to air a 30-part miniseries, "Horseman Without a Horse," which is based on the debunked canard "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion," an early 20th century hoax by the Russian czar's secret police that purported to reveal a Jewish plan to dominate the world. The book, a virtual prescription for genocide, has been invoked by every Jew hater from Adolf Hitler to Louis Farrakhan. THE REST HERE ...

You really caught it on this thread, didn't you! I've noticed sometimes how the issue of an entire thread gets buried by bickering over things that really aren't pertinent to the subject. This seems to be one of those threads. Guess it's human nature. Think of the last argument you got into with a loved one. Bet you remember having the argument but haven't a clue how it occurred. I know it happens in my life. I think one of the reasons hackles were raised here is that so many freepers are very sensitive to the fate of the Jews (me one of them) and, so, take offense to making light of the issue by arguing how "anti-semitism" is used. Just a thought. Sorry if I offended you.
I think that you sum it up quite well DD. You haven't offended me whatsoever. Rather, you have chosen a path which it appears so many others do not wish to explore, which is honest dissent framed in civil debate. Thank you.
Regardless of one's passions, however, I would like to comment outside of the context of my reply to you that nobody influences opinions by starting out lashing and flailing at their opponent with name calling tactics, or strutting around like little Napoleons "demanding" this that or the other. It just doesn't work that way I'm afraid.
Thank you for your measured and well thought out reply. I look forward to hearing from you again in other posts!
A timely example would be the satisfaction most of us on FR feel at this time with what we are doing to the Taliban and alKhaeda. For an example on the other side, I refer to Osama's recent performance on tape.
But understand, there are still people out here (more than you'd like to admit) who understand that this country is supposed to be guided by 'The Rule of Law', not by blind hatred/blind alliegence for or against any 'group' of people (unless lawfully indicted and convicted).
And so, in our latest rush to judgement, Congress's role to lawfully declare war has been usurped by Presidential Decree, the Justice system's role to adjudicate guilt has been usurped by Presidential decree. And while that may be quite all right in the eyes of those with an 'agenda' that supercedes American sovereignty, it simply ain't all right with people who place American law and justice FIRST in the scheme of nations and people.
Please don't get the idea that I support AlQaeda, the Taleban OR OBL in any way, as I do not. Nor do I support the heinous behaviour of our 'allies', the northern alliance, whose admitted robberies, rapes, and other horrific acts against surviving afghans, is reprehensible. I look at Slobodon, suffering the humiliation of the Hague and wonder if that possibility lurks somewhere in America's future. (Also consider the similar charges against your other hero: Sharon)
I am sad that the reaction to the pain and anguish suffered by Americans on 911, was blind, blood revenge against the innocent people of the poorest nation on earth, who had absolutely no control over AlQaeda or OBL and who had no means to defend OR protect themselves and their families from our massive air attacks.
I don't claim to know God's plan as do some here, so all I can say is: ~~~~~Your 'evil ones', OBL and Omar have likely escaped ... just like Saddam ... just like Qadaffi. And more. But I have to say: I just hate 'co-incidences' like that because sooner or later they stop looking like coincidences.
On a personal note LCS, tell me: do Afghans not bleed real blood? Do they not grieve for their lost and maimed children? Do they not suffer from hunger and cold? Is it they who have no heart? And if you believe they do not, is that because they are Muslim, Israel's ancient blood enemy?
I believe in a cold reality. The citizens of a country are responsible for the actions of their government, whatever the form of their government. The fact that they are still alive demonstrates that they did not do all they could have done to remove the Taliban. The same thing was true of the Germans in WWII. We should not go out of our way to harm civilians, and we obviously are not doing so. I see little evidence that Freepers, or Americans in general are particularly incensed at Afghanis, although there are exceptions, of course -- I have seen many attacks here on Bin Laden, Mullah Omar, the Taliban, and al Khaeda, all of whom are not worthy of any kind of mercy.
The major point I was making in my earlier post on this point was in response to the question of the cause of the hatred that gave rise to two world wars. An intrinsic if unlovely desire on the part of humans to inflict death and pain is likely one of the causes. To put it in religious terms, we are fallen, and evil is an intrinsic part of our natures.
Apparently someone thought American citizens were responsible for the actions of their government, too.
We should not go out of our way to harm civilians, and we obviously are not doing so
That million + dead Iraqi children must've just tripped over their shoelaces and exploded the bombs. And of course its their fault there's an embargo, too.
To put it in religious terms, we are fallen, and evil is an intrinsic part of our natures.
Is that to say, we've fallen and we can't get up .... or maybe that we should try to revise that 'intrinsic part'.
They have not 'escaped.'
They are ON THE RUN.
I know this will depress you, but we will get them. And we will kill them. They are dead men walking. And we kicked Saddam's rear whan he went into Kuwait.
Your glee at the 'escape' of the murderers of Americans is sickening. Good thing I have not had breakfast yet.
"Either you are with us or you are with the terrorists."
No Veronica, we killed Iraqi people and took down the Iraqi military and destroyed the Iraqi economy. But Saddam's 'rear' is still quite active.
From what I've written, where do you discern anything remotely resembling 'glee'. I am filled with sadness that people just can't accept the fact that what we have managed to do through our failed foreign policies is create many more Osamas and Omars. I am frustrated to realize that most people have learned nothing about the action/reaction tendencies of the human species.
Now how in heck was anyone supposed to know that you OWNED all the threads pertaining to the Middle East? And how much fun would it be for the 'amen corner' to just open-endedly accuse-accuse-accuse if there wasn't anyone around to argue with about it?
