The Bill of Rights rally today in Denver went very well. Nice and peaceful. No permit, and no hassle for the rally at all - Only the men who were carrying openly were arrested. No one else was bothered in the least bit.

We thank everyone for their support. FreeRepublic will be kept updated on the facts in this case. Please visit the Stanley web site at: http://www.stanley2002.org .

The campaign will be releasing a summary later this evening or early tomorrow morning. Detailing the entire rally and updated information on Rick and Duncan. Please support these brave patriots. Rick is not taking donations for any legal expenses - he has taken that responsibility for himself. All donations should be directed to the campaign. ($1,000 limit until May - must be a U.S. Citizen) Please see the web site for more details.

THANK YOU!

Can you imagine gutless politicians like Dennis Hastert doing something like this?

You know, actually DEFENDING the Constitution they are SWORN to defend.

A few more moves like this one, and the Libertarian Party will be a real to the spineles RINO Party.

I advocate absolute adherence to the 2nd Amendment by any of our many governments from local to national. My rights are given by God and not by a piece of paper, but those spelled out and affirmed by our Bill of Rights are absolute.

I even appreciate this Libertarian standing up for the 2nd Amendment. I'm not a Libertarian, and I have different interpretations and understandings for other areas such as the War on Terrorism, but on this issue, this man is right.

I remember one Denver law that is still in the books to this day. Something about not shooting at prairie dogs from the back window of a cable car with a 30-30. Rabbits - OK. Bus window - OK. 30.06 - OK. But apparently certain isolated circumstances are targeted for swift clampdown.

The Second Amendment to the Constitution trumps any city ordinance. Whether that ordinance says you must wear a weapon or you may not wear a weapon.

This would be an excellent time to remind everyone that the Declaration of Independence, a most revered document, is not the law. Thus, people who use its lines for the purpose of purporting to represent rights, are a bit confused. At best, it is the legislative history of our Constitution. It represented the ideals that which we hoped a new nation would embody.

I was reminded of this by Justice Scalia. I once questioned him about abortion by saying, "isn't it true that of the rights declared by our founding fathers, they choose to declare first, the right to life? For without the right to life, one certainly enjoys no other rights, especially liberty."

Scalia, speaking to a small group of Thomas More members at my law school said, "The Constitution is a nice puff-piece, but it ain't the law."

I certainly support the right to keep and bear arms, but I think any arguments on its legitamacy should come from the U.S. Constitution. Frankly, I have read the Second Amendment more than once, and I find it hard to reconcile the language with the unfettered rights some advocate. (Rights with which I agree in principle).
