Your Opinion - Best Email Program Software?

I am currently using Microsoft Outlook Express as my email agent, but looking for something better and more secure and stable (and as a bonus, less of a target for hackers.)
OK, the real truth is I am looking for something that will make it less likely for me to accidentally delete an entire folder and a dozen or so unread email messages - I have done this three times with Outlook, doing a shift-delete on what I thought was a message line but instead the folder was highlighted. So I'm an idiot, looking for a more idiot proof email agent. I suspect there are more like me out there, so don't laugh.
Any suggestions for a Windows 95/98/ME based email program? Freeware/shareware preferred. (Pegasus is a program I liked and used a couple of years ago, if anyone is using the current version I would appreciate your opinion of it).

I also use Eudora. It is far and away the best email program. Go to www.eudora.com
They are up to version 5.1 now.

I use eudora as well - it does what e-mail programs were designed to do, e-mail.

You might try Eudora, which is not free unless you accept sponsored ads, or Eudora light which is free, but has fewer features. http://www.eudora.com/products/eudora/updater1.html
Stay away from the new "sponsored mode" version 5.x!
It loads you up with Aureate and Gator spyware modules. Running AdAware after using the "free" sponsored mode is a real education. I stuck with V3 and V4 of Eudora.
But as to the new version, Eudora is ruined. No one would do business with a company who spies on its users. Why, I have not downloaded a Real Audio or other Real file in over a year becuase of that! Maybe Eudora joined the Legion of Scumbags after Netscape bought them..I loved the former versions. I would never run MS Outhouse, unless scripting and all the rest of the add-on bloatware were disabled.

The Bat! or Pegasus. Outlook is like a bar of dynamite in your ass that everyone who feels lucky enough can ignite from a safe distance.

( I hope you have a sense of humor! This story went around the internet a couple of years ago. ) In the words of a telephone tech support technician, who, after trying to fix a customer's computer on the telephone, got very exasperated and finally told the customer to box up the computer and return it to the store where he purchased it. When the customer heard this he asked, "What should I tell them at the store?" The tech support technician calmly replied, "Tell them you're too stupid to own a computer." LOL

OK, the real truth is I am looking for something that will make it less likely for me to accidentally delete an entire folder and a dozen or so unread email messages. I did the exact same thing myself. In fact, I started a thread about it. I lost hundreds of emails.

Eudora. And simply don't delete anything. Eudora lets you move messages to other files. I currently have 14 Meg of messages and I don't care. At least I haven't deleted anything I wanted to keep. Periodically I transfer the less important stuff to another file but I never delete, (you're not the only idiot out there.) 8^)

I've been using Eudora for the past 5 years. The latest version is 5.1. It's great - I recommend it highly.

OK, the real truth is I am looking for something that will make it less likely for me to accidentally delete an entire folder and a dozen or so unread email messagesNot that I'm any big fan of MonkeySoft, but my ancient Netscape Communicator program has an Undo feature on the Edit menu that, well, undoes my mistakes, and I would think that Outlook would do the same (they're good at stealing ideas from other people).
Furthermore, when I delete something, it simply goes over to the trash folder, from whence it can be resurrected unless I specifically go there and delete it again. I would think that Outlook does the same.
Oh, and another thing. Instead of those complex keyboard operations to delete a file, simply click on the file name using your right mouse button. That will pop up a menu, and you won't get distracted by looking at your fingers on the keyboard.

I use and like Eudora with the sponsored ads. They're not a problem. I highly recommend Eudora.

Jumping on the bandwagon for Eudora ... even in sponsored mode.
I just got finished testing out the new Pegasus, and it bites big time!

I also use the 'free' Eudora, it is well set up and easy to use. One funny thing - my brother is a police chief in a texas city and my e-mail is rejected there!
I have to send e-mail to him through my local ISP's e-service, which is really plain-jane compared to Eudora.
