You might try Eudora, which is not free unless you accept sponsored ads, or Eudora light which is free, but has fewer features.

Stay away from the new "sponsored mode" version 5.x!

It loads you up with Aureate and Gator spyware modules. Running AdAware after using the "free" sponsored mode is a real education. I stuck with V3 and V4 of Eudora.

But as to the new version, Eudora is ruined. No one would do business with a company who spies on its users. Why, I have not downloaded a Real Audio or other Real file in over a year becuase of that! Maybe Eudora joined the Legion of Scumbags after Netscape bought them..I loved the former versions. I would never run MS Outhouse, unless scripting and all the rest of the add-on bloatware were disabled.

I use and like Eudora with the sponsored ads. They're not a problem. I highly recommend Eudora.
