Edward Van Halen Still Battling Cancer(The True Reason For No Van Halen)
12-15-01 | My Favorite Headache

Posted on 12/14/2001 9:23:05 PM PST by My Favorite Headache

I am posting this off of info and a few new shots I have seen in the last few days. It is now told that the constant delay of Van Halen moving on is due to the fact that Edward Van Halen is still battling cancer and he is not looking all that well.

The guitar legend was diagnosed with tounge cancer from years of smoking and has had a hip replacement as well since 1999.The failure of the bands last disc Van Halen 3 with former Extreme frontman Gary Cherone has brought out the rumor mill that David Lee Roth was indeed back in the band.

Rumors and stories have flown around about this for years and it seems like the clock might be ticking out on one of the greatest if not the greatest guitarist who ever lived. He was recently with some members of Styx and was not looking well and refused to comment on the band and how he felt. Here is a collage of just how bad and how far he has fallen.

Notice even ill he still is smoking though

Prayers for Eddie

Head and neck cancers are the worst, and they are the hardest to cure. The pictures don't lie...

I hope he gets better, but there he is, still smoking those cigarettes!

Prayers for the first rock group I remember.

I remember Jump when it first came out. I was 5 years old.

When the band booted Dave, I thought the world would end. When they booted Sammy, I realized my personal hero might just be an a--hole control freak. Now that I've seen these pictures of him still smoking, the only thing I am sure of is that the guy who inspired me for almost 20 years is just plain stupid.

I'm still praying for you Ed, and hoping you'll quit.

So sad to see the most talented guitar player in many years in this condition. "Hey Ed, I'm a smoker too, but without your enormous talent. I KNOW how hard it is to quit, so I'm praying for you. Hope you can beat it, 'cause you have too much to give!"

The thing I have always admired in Eddie Van Halen aside from his enormous talent on guitar is his irrepressible spirit. You can just see it in his face. Let's pray that he can beat this thing.

I agree. I met him on the VH3 tour. I never thought I would see Van Halen in this life playing to a sold out 4,100 seat venue when I had seen them 10 yrs before playing to 70,000 people. Eddie is indeed a control freak and has had issues of being a serious drinker...but you are right. His spirit is what wins me over every time.

I'm not a Van Halen fan, I rememeber his marriage to Valerie Bertellini in picture above, but he's with that good looking blonde in the larger picture. Has he divorced Bertellini, or what (I always thought she was cute).

last disc Van Halen 3

A lot of music in a small space. It's okay the first listen, but there's more to hear the second. A child prodigy who had the chance to develop, and to share his gift. He has accomplished a great deal.

No that is actually the wife of one of the members of Styx. Him and Val are still very well married.

I agree. Although I don't like Sammy all the much, I don't think he deserved to get fired the way he did. It's obvious now that Eddie's ego is every bit as bad as Dave's.

I love Sam. A genuine nice guy and he got the shaft from what became their new manager Ray Danniels.
