How many hours a day are we expected to work??

Posted on 12/13/2001 5:23:04 PM PST by Sungirl

This is a serious question

.I would like to know how many working hours (to the minute) are expected of you TO STAY at your place of employement. I would like to hear from both points of view. From the Managers and from the people that do the work.

Whatever the job requires. If you don't like it, you can do what I do when I get fed up. I vote with my feet.

I will never forget the look on my boss's face when I told him: "You know that raise you said I couldn't have? I got it anyway. Wanna walk me to the gate and collect my badge?" LOL!

Usually eight hours for hourly people.  Anything over is
why time and a half was invented.  If you are on salary,
however, thinking of yourself and wanting to be thought
of as a professional, you stay as long as is necessary
to get the job done.

Self employed - until the job gets done or I feel like taking a break.

You seem to want specific information to a non-specific post. Do you have a personal example/agenda that you need clarified?

More info might help.

From the Managers and from the people that do the work.

The shop works 4 - 10 hrs day - I work 4 -9's and a 4. The office works 5- 8's

when we are busy -

Work is slow lately - all are on reduced hours. 30 to 36 hrs depending on position. There will be a small bonus despite the past 3 mos being unprofitable. Orders nosedived after 911.

I was in an unfulfilling job situation. I was headed back to college, by way of a summer working in Alaska. In my resignation letter, I stated the facts, and ended with, "I'm going to Alaska to gut fish."

I am in banking [commercial/real estate lender] My people don't care. It's all about quality production, yield and fees. If I make my bones, I am o.k. if I don't it doesn't matter how much time I spend there. I work for purely bottom line people.

Regards,

In sales, one works as long as it takes to make the numbers.

Our "official" policy at my place of work is that we must remain at work, working, for 480 minutes a day (8 hours). We are alloted 60 minutes for lunch and two 15-minute breaks, which we may or may not take. Our "unofficial" attendance policy (and the one that gets enforced) is "Leave whenever you like, as long as you're 8 hours-worth-of-productive when you are here."

However, if I only work for 8 hours a day, I'm slacking off. Meetings sometimes run long, I "Secret Shop" from time to time to record product info about the competition on my own time, I sometimes do work-related strategy with co-workers here at home, and I log on to, check, and adjust the work server from home at times.

Eight to nine hours, depending on how busy I am. I will not stop a project after eight hours if I think I can finish it within the next half hour. I hate leaving things undone.

As a manager, on salary, I work as long as required. During a time of crisis, that could be 24-36 hours, with no sleep and only a few minutes to grab a bite to eat. Thankfully that doesn't happen often.

I'm a salaried journalist. I get paid for a 39 hour week.

Some days I go in...and am unproductive because...``I write the news, I don't make it!!!'. And I leave early after pushing in maybe five hours.

Next day, story breaks....I work 24/7
Happy to do it, because it's my job (nay, vocation) and it's a buzz...and it's...well, it's what I do!

....and I'm damn good at it too :-)
