STAYAWAY CHRISTIANS ALMOST COST ELECTION
Many Christians believe that prayer played a major role in sending George W. Bush to the White House, but stayaway believers came close to losing him the election, according to his chief political adviser, Karl Rove.
Rove said that one reason the 2000 election was so tight was that as many as 4 million Christian conservatives did not go to the polls, reported "The Chicago Tribune." Although the Bush campaign had expected 19 million evangelical voters to vote for their man, election returns revealed only 15 million turned out to cast ballots.
Speaking yesterday at an American Enterprise Institute seminar, Rove said the Bush campaign "probably failed to marshal support of the base as well as we should have," said the "Tribune." Rove added: "But we may also be returning to the point in America where fundamentalists and evangelicals remain true to their beliefs and think politics is corrupt and, therefore, they shouldn't participate."
Rove said that if the "process of withdrawal" went on it would be bad for the country as well as conservatives and Republicans. "It's something we have to spend a lot of time and energy on."
I'm quite pleased with Bush. The thought of what shape this country would be in if the Republicans had nomiated Talibans like Keyes or Bauder makes me sick to my stomach. Thank God the American public hasnt been dumbed down that much.
1) His PAPA was a RINO.( Lots of people remember PAPA saying, read my lying lips and of course Souter )
2) He never denied the rumors about the white drug...... Lots of people didn't like his no answer. ( rumors always hurt , if they are not denied ).
3) DWI..... He should have come out and said it long before it was released by Sore team. It was not a big deal, because we all make foolish choices in our youth.
( I think it cost him atleast 1-2 million votes... many Christians said.... W is Slick 2 and stayed home)
Take your time FRined with your replies. God knows I love to read them!
Rampant political idiocy, the appointment of Tom Ridge as Director of Homeland Security is a large net plus for the pro-life position in this country, and anyone with even a quarter of a brain knows it. As Governor of PA he could, and did, affect pro-life legislation in that state. As Director of Homeland Security, he has ABSOLUTELY NO INFLUENCE on the pro-life agenda.
I don't see why, the effect you have on our society as a Talibornigan, is identical to the effect they have. Politically you are the same as 'a baby killer, a Muslim, an atheist, or a Democrat'.
What office is he running for or is he just trying to fill his pockets? Is this the same Horowitz at Tetrahedran Publishing that is the tin foil fool that thinks that Kissinger is the architect of AIDS and the Bushes are behind the Anthrax letters to boost sales for their favorite drug companies. May I say John Birch Society? Tin foil for sure.
We'll get a chance to see your theory put to a test. Schundler got creamed in the NJ Governor race espousing pro-life positions, tax cuts and school choice. Therefore, according to your theory, Schundler or some other true conservative Republican should be elected in 2005.
Grow up. It takes 60 votes to get the bill to the floor to be voted on. There are fifty Republicans and most of those would vote for it. That left maybe fifteen Dems that needed to go along or there would be no vote. No vote, it was the Dems that did it in. Next time get off your duffs and vote Republican for Senator if you want to see something happen.
Actually you have done a good job here of defending your leader. Unfortunately he is still in one of his caves.
You can't help those who won't help themselves.
Well, you see, we have this strange new process called polling, in which we go to the precincts and ask a representative sample of the voters who they voted for, as well as a number of other questions about party, race, religion, etc. Then we compare this with polls taken prior to the election, and see if there is a difference in participation by some groups, compared to that projected by statisticians earlier.
If you don't like the way campaigns are being run, then go out and help run one. Congressional campaigns, even for incumbents, are run nearly entirely by unpaid volunteers. Or is it easier to sit home and bitch.
I've been surprised throughout this thread by how much hate has been spewed by the lock-step republicans against their less partisan brethren. Calling them names won't make them more likely to vote for your candidate, and in fact will probably make them less likely. The real truth here is that the more the republican party moves to the left, the more voters they will loose on the right. Social issues matter to these conservatives and keeping them voting may mean doing something unpopular to keep them happy. Attacking this side of the party and alienating them further is the quickest way to both sides of the party loose.
Although I have always voted for republic presidential candidates, there may come a day when I won't. If the president compromises on too many issues that matter to me (nominating liberal judges, renewing the 1994 omnibus crime bill, running with a pro-abortion V.P.), he may loose my support and those like me in 2004. Most of us have a point where we would no longer vote for our political party. Karl Rove knows this, and it's the only thing keeping him from pushing the president more to left.
I care about the views my candidates take, to expect anything less is fascism.
We are in mighty big trouble if the conscience of our nation (imo that falls to the Christian conservatives) allows the nation to elect adulterers/rapists/abortion-on-demand/infanticidists/cradle-to-grave government health care/socialists (iow, DEMOCRATS).
Believe me, since I used to be a 'rat, I know what I'm talking about.
There are many Republicans - many here - who think "Christian Consrevatives" are the cause of about every ill there is - both in the country and in the Republican party.
Here is the truth of the matter:
Were it not for Christian conservatives, this country would already have gone totally to hell in a handbasket. There are days you just want to pull up stakes, turn inward, and let the country do just that - go on to the hell that is awaiting us.
But we are called to be "light" and "salt" - and either we do that or we will also be worthy of nothing more than being tossed out and trampled underfoot.
What nearly cost President Bush the election was massive voter fraud - nothing else. If the Bush team and the Republicans do not focus like a laser beam on this problem ---ending election fraud - Republicans will lose in massive numbers in 2002 and he will lose in 2004, no matter what else happens.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Mr. Rove. And get some people active on ending voter fraud or kiss everything about this country that matters - bye bye.
