The U. S. government released today a copy of a videotape of Osama bin Laden obtained by U.S. forces in Jalalabad, Afghanistan in late November.

The video was filmed by unknown persons.

"There was no doubt of bin Laden's responsibility for the September 11 attacks before the tape was discovered," said Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld.

The release of the tape was made after balancing the concerns about any additional pain that could be caused by its release against the value of having the world fully appreciate what we are up against in the war against terrorism.

The tape was released with an English translation and English subtitling, prepared independently by George Michael, translator, Diplomatic Language Services; and Dr. Kassem M. Wahba, Arabic language program coordinator, School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University. They collaborated on their translation and compared it with translations done by the U.S. government for consistency. There were no inconsistencies in the translations.

I was very confused that day. I live near a major city, so I was terrified that this operation was large enough to send a plane in one of our big buildings. As for a coup, I wouldn't put it in those words. I was concerned the attacks were a prelude to a possible invasion, but not a complete overtaking of the government.

I found the danged article. It was in the Orlando Sentinel, that the Saudi Arabian embassy had confirmed that four of the five mentioned by Al-Faisal: Alghamdi, Alshehri, Alomari and Alhazmi (of the 19) are not dead and had nothing to do with the heinous terror attack. Alleged hijacker, Waleed Alshehri is currently living in Casablanca, according to Royal Air Moroc. He's the one mentioned above, who trained in Daytona. The story was also reported in Information Times online. Associated Press reported on Sept 22 that Alshehri had spoken to the US embassy in Morocco.

Why does any one trust ANY sources? Why do you trust yours? When someone lies to me once, I have difficulty taking anything else they may say seriously. Did Bin Laden deny his involvement in the Cole? No. Did he deny involvement in 911? Repeatedly. OTOH, we've been lied to so consistantly by our 'leaders' (before 911), that I take their penchant for dissembling into consideration before dropping bombs on the innocent civilians of a sovereign nation (of which I am one ... as are you).
