69 warrants issued for various security reasons, arrests made.
The airport workers arrested apparently were using phony SSN's, illegal immigrants, or had warrents against them.
Salt Lake City airport is the first airport in the country for this type security sweep.
Law enforcement is holding a press briefing right now.

Maybe some of the union leaders are illegal?

LOL! My brother and his family went to California for Thanksgiving. His sixteen year old daughter was frisked at the SLC airport going out (her name was drawn randomly.) And coming home, she was frisked yet again because her belt buckle set off the alarm. She thought it was a great adventure.

Granny might like being frisked the "old fashion" way, but not being probed with a cold electonic wand.
It just doesn't have the same personal touch......

So now we have 16 year olds and past 70 year olds enjoying the frisking!
Just putting the fun back into air travel for some of us!

Uhhh...if it keeps happening, I'd start thinking some sort of "profiling"!
(I can hear it now "I was a victim of beauty profiling!")
And think about getting the girl entered into some beauty contests!

???? BYU is going to the Liberty Bowl this year. They're playing Louisville. They also usually fly out of Provo Airport.Any the University of Hawaii, who scored 72 points off of the Cougars, don't get to go to a bowl. There ain't no justice in the world.

I knew Provo had an airport-- but do they have any commercial flights?
To: Lokibob
Salt Lake City sounds a LOT smarter then our airport officials here in Raleigh. Not only do they still have those of middle eastern descent working there but they have hired them since 9-11 and then they robbed the place.
See the thread here.

We flew into and out of SLC first week of October, with a suitcase full of laptop and base, power inverter, cd's, 2 digital cameras and accessories, hubby's shaver, 2 cell phones, etc. - and was never asked to turn anything on! At LAX everything was inspected, and we even had a bomb alert in LAX in baggage claim that delayed our baggage pick up. I'd say SLC airport was definitely lacking in their inspections!

I totally agree. It is a travesty that Hawaii isn't going to a bowl game. Not only did Hawaii totally humiliate BYU, Hawaii scored over 50 points and 500 yards in each of the two games prior to playing BYU. Lots and lots of 6-5 teams out there going to bowl games, but not a 9-3 Hawaii team. BTW, BYU is 12-1 and received the automatic bowl bid for winning the MWC championship.

Nope, no commercial flights out of the Provo airport, unforturnately. I live in Provo, it would be nice. I do know the airport is slated for renovations and a new runway. The mayor is hoping for commercial flights out of Provo in the next few years. Only chartered flights can take off right now in Provo, and BYU charters their flights for the football team.

Wow, that is interesting. I flew out of SLC on Nov 1 to Fresno. I had a laptop computer, a PDA, and a CD Walkman. I had to turn them all of and on and they wiped them all for bomb residue.

Most port cities seem to have 50-80% people who don't meet all the rules to work at an AP. If this procedure is rolled rapidly across the country there will be real chaos.

The only bowl game Hawaii would possibly get is the Hula Bowl. Hawaiians aren't going to hook up the trailers to their pickups, and head to Orlando for the Citrus Bowl. And the Bowl decision makers want a full house, and TV coverage. Nebraska had to get the Rose Bowl, since the jaded Huskers fans wouldn't have gone to the mere Fiesta Bowl without a Nat'l championship at stake, but Oregonians and Coloradans will. So the Huskers go even though they finished 3rd in their conference. Even if Oregon had been 12-0, they would still have been behind Nebraska and Colorado in the BCS system, unless some of the computer ratings were altered. One of them listed Oregon as 8th, and two as 7th.
