KSL radio, Salt Lake City | Me

Posted on 12/11/2001 12:20:05 PM PST by Lokibob

69 warrants issued for various security reasons, arrests made.

The airport workers arrested apparently were using phony SSN's, illegal immigrants, or had warrents against them.

Salt Lake City airport is the first airport in the country for this type security sweep.

Law enforcement is holding a press briefing right now.

LaGuardia would probably have to shut down permanently if they tried that here in "Fun City"...

69?

Sounds like BYU's football team isn't going to ANY bowl this year.

Why don't they start with Miami or Orlando? Too big, too many.

Salt Lake City airport is the first airport in the country for this type security sweep.

Similar tough background checks for ALL workers in and around the port areas of
Los Angeles is being contemplated.
And the unions are really b-tching about it. Probably afraid of losing too much
of their leadership structure.

(As for the lowly union guy who might get pinched in these sort of sweeps
for an old, relatively minor offense...that person I might have some sympathy for.)

It was called "Operation Safe Travel" and was aimed at every employee at SLC airport, janitors, aircraft fuelers, food service.

It was done under the umbrella of Homeland Security but you can bet it is because of the Olympics.

Much needed! The terrorists are serious about being a danger to aviation. We absolutly cannot afford to be slack about this.

???? BYU is going to the Liberty Bowl this year. They're playing Louisville. They also usually fly out of Provo Airport.

It was done because of the Olympics. SLC has a really good security level anyway, but this will make it that much better. The IOC has asked for a release from the rule that no one can be met at the gate. Mitt Romney, head of the SLOC told them to stuff it, the elite IOC members can walk to baggage claim or wherever, just like the rest of us do.

It was 271 people found to have provided false info and 69 people arrested. This was out of a total of 9,000 employees. These employees worked in the security areas and must have lied on their security forms.

This really is a small percentage of the total work force.

You posted, "quit frisking granny I just may consider flying again."

Careful now! I know a couple of grannies who are flying more than ever due the frisking. Its the most exciting thing that happened to them in a long time. They wear support bras and girdles with metal stays as support! They are have a "ball" with all of the body searches!

Thanks for the info! I go on a fair number of business trips, and SLC Airport has always been the best. They've always made me turn my laptop computer on and off when I go through security and they'd wipe it down for bomb residue too. None of the other airports I've gone through did this prior to 9/11.

YES! Sweep EVERY airport, and then sweep the colleges, and then, . . .
