Does your netscape browser work?

My netscape 4.75 browser back button returns to the top of the page rather than the area of post of the article. This browser works on other web pages. Does anyone know what causes this?

>And I really don't like that squishy rounded fake chromed UI that's in vogue these days.

I don't either. But at least 6.2 (or later) works fine here in terms of reading pages that 4.7 will not. Having said that, I mostly use 4.78 here as I like the interface and the feel better. Don't like the feel of Explorer at all.

>On both my computers here. Netscape 6.2 takes 4 times longer to load than either IE 6.0 or Netscape 4.79.

Yep, I mostly use 4.78 for the feel, until forced to use the others to read some pages.

I only installed the browser and the U.S region pack --- didn't want to load it with extra stuff I didn't need. Netscape 6.2 is based on the Mozilla source code the same code Mozilla's own browser is based upon. Since people complain about Microsoft controlling every thing in sight, you'd think they'd be happy there was a free alternative. OK so Netscape doesn't match Internet Explorer in every area but the reviews say it has made progress from where it used to be. And we can all hope future releases will make the product even better.

I tried your suggestion and it worked. Thanks. However, that is the ONLY thing my Netscape has had a problem with that I have noticed. Wonder what did happen? An upgrade or something on FreeRepublic? *shrug* Small thing. Lurk mode back on

"I use Netscape Communicator 4.7. I just started having this problem 2 or 3 days ago. "

I'm just about ready to give up. I've successfully avoided MSIE all these years, but the FR website gives me consistant timeout errors when I post using Netscape 4.7 - tests with MSIE result in no such errors. I tried installing Opera, and the FR posting function won't even work under that platform.

Any clues out there?

I'm using Netscape 1.0 with a Timex Sinclair, and I can't even read this page.

And I can't even respond to your response using Mozilla on my new Kaypro, let alone read what you just wrote. This is just WAG. Hope it reaches you....

:)

You should try it on a Commodore VIC-20. You need lots of cassette tapes to run it.

LOL! Can you imagine... CLOAD....CSAVE... or whatever?

Seriously tho - I usually use IE5, but this message was posted with Netscape 4.78. Seems to be ok, also, forward and backward seems to work and take me to the 'area' in a thread.

Appreciate the good words about 6.2 but got burnt so badly with 6/gecko I'm hesitant to move up.

I am trying Opera right now and its does seem faster, but its hard to tell since I have a fast connection anyway.

One thing I do not like is my mouse scrolling button is not functioning, havent found a fix for it yet :(

This is happening to me as well. I use version 4.78 and 6.2. Both have been doing the same thing for a few days and there is also a delay in the page being loaded.

You won't lose anything but beware, 6.2 is a little slower on older machines. Our computer is four years old and the latest version is much slower than 4.78 which is very fast.

Oh have a sense of humor.

Sorry that my humor, albeit somewhat sarcastic, was lost on you.

Net 6 WAS a dog, but Netscape 6.2 works fine.

I agree. 6.2 is very good. Is able to do some things IE6 cannot do well.

Yep, mine's doing the same thing. I've been wondering if it's my computer. It started a couple of days ago. It's such a time waster, trying to find out where you were before you clicked on a thread.
