Clearly you are incapable of disagreeing with someone without resorting to personal attacks.

Thanks kindly for the "Civil Disobedience," excerpts by Thoreau. He practiced what he believed in. He expressed his belief in the power and, indeed, the obligation of the individual to determine right from wrong, independent of the dictates of society: ". . . any man more right than his neighbors, constitutes a majority of one . ." While many of his contemporaries agreed with his view, few practiced it in their own lives as consistently as Thoreau.

I think you're right, MadameAxe. LOL, that UN treaty must have been the problem. Otherwise, I'm sure her daughter would have built her own rocket, flown it to Mars and terraformed the planet to support human life!

I would deduce that Miz D. is actually one of the common herd of Americans who are so uninformed and conditioned that they line up to hand in their rights like soma-stupor zombies, all the while mouthing platitudes about how "free" they are. Actually, she is someone who can THINK and articulate her views without resorting to childish name-calling.

You are falsely accusing me of hostility and disdainful contempt for "this woman" as you called her. Yet, your post to me is nothing but insults.
To: Victoria Delsoul
Outstanding analysis! You said everything I was thinking when I read this article, but you said it much better.
To: William Wallace
I guess, being the Essay Winner is not enough, LOL.
Thanks William for your excellent and civilized post.

Thanks so much for your post, Habs. Nice to see you!
To: Patrick McGoohan
Thank you, Sir.

I first read this when Claire originally wrote it. In fact, we published it in the newspaper I co-owned at the time.
It's every bit as poignant - more so, especially since 9/11 - as it was when it was written.
For those who mistake "realist" for "defeatist" - well, eventually what this woman wrote is gonna smack you right between the eyes. I pity you, that you don't have the wisdom or the awareness to see what's going on around you.

Excellent post!

This from someone cheering on a post consisting of a long argument against the worth of a dying (now dead) person's life because that person holds views she didn't like.
And the "THEY" aren't some vague bogeyman. At the time, the top ones were named Bill Clinton and Janet Reno.

So where would you draw the line? If the government can confiscate 33% of everything I earn (before I even see a dime, no less), is that fair? Look on the bright side, they probably aren't taking very much.

Thanks CG!

So libertarians value freedom, but not the freedom to disagree with libertarians?I will defend to the death your right to be a tacky jackass.
To: Patrick McGoohan
Careful there Number 6. Libertarians worship freedom above all. Therefore, no one is free to disagree with them. ;-)
