Clinton has much to 'regret'
Philadelphia Inquirer ^ | Sunday, December 9, 2001 | Mona Charen

Posted on 12/09/2001 6:37:55 PM PST by Think free or die

Since Sept. 11, we have witnessed new but unsurprising evidence of what an incompetent leader we had in Bill Clinton. And we have learned that his immaturity, shallowness, and self-centeredness had consequences for the nation that were tragic and very nearly catastrophic.

While the sane world grieved at the savagery of the Sept. 11 calamity, Clinton confided to a friend his regret. What? That he hadn't done more to protect the nation? That he'd underestimated the danger? No. He "regretted" that this tragedy hadn't happened on his watch, and that he had therefore lost an opportunity for "greatness."

Far more damning is the abundant evidence that he did almost nothing to protect us while he had the chance. In 1996, as Monsoor Ijaz relates in the Los Angeles Times, Sudan offered to extradite bin Laden to the United States. The Clinton administration declined the offer.

Even after the USS Cole was struck and nearly sunk in 2000, Clinton was too busy chasing the chimera of a grand Middle East peace to deal with those he knew had attacked us. Hoping for a secure place in history for William J. Clinton, he declined to do anything that might annoy or unsettle the Islamic world.

In fact, in each and every case in which U.S. targets came under terrorist attack during his tenure, Clinton responded feebly or not at all. On the day he lobbed cruise missiles at Afghanistan and Sudan - three days after Monica Lewinsky testified before the grand jury - Clinton told the nation that "our battle against terrorism did not begin with the bombing of our embassies in Africa, nor will it end with today's strike." But it did. And the "strike" was a bust: Clinton hit a bunch of abandoned huts in Afghanistan and a possibly blameless pharmaceutical plant in Khartoum.

The disgraceful truth is that he was incapable of pursuing anything other than his own narrow self-interest - not even the welfare of the nation he swore to preserve, protect and defend.

I was quite surprised to find this opinion piece in the Philadelphia Inquirer. The "Inquie" is pretty steady in its leftward lean. While the content is familiar to Freepers, the source is hardly typical.

Yes, it's always about the Clintons. They even had to pimp out their daughter with a false story about her non-existent adventures on the morning of 9/11.

They're the bride at every funeral and the corpse at every wedding.

Yes, I know what the saying really is, but this seems so much more appropriate for them.

Thanks for posting this -- I'm glad to hear it's out there in the MAINSTREAM PRESS, not just online at conspiratorial websites.

I feel quite sorry for Chelsea Clinton, as her parents, BOTH of them, are truly CLINICALLY pathological, IMNSHO. Can you imagine the HORROR of having to interface with that sicko couple for 18 years?????

Mona Charen is a syndicated conservative writer. It's rather surprising to find her in a left-wing rag like the Philadelphia Inquirer. Does anyone know if she has appeared there before?

Mona appears from time to time in the left wing rag in my city too. I think they just pick up the syndication feed sometimes when they want to appear more balanced.

While we on FR had already heard this story, nice to see Mona picked it up and wrote about it, so maybe it will get out there more. One of the most disgraceful comments by the slob, minus the L

Good question. Could this mean that the message is getting through even to such suck-ups of the Leviathan State as the Knight-Ridder organization?

Maybe the Reuters' reporters that were skinned alive after 8 years of following bill clinton's advice gave them a clue. I actually think those retards in the lamestream really thought he was a great president. They believed his bs. and now they see him for the loathesome bottom feeder he is...and his b!tch of burden too.

I don't recall whether I've seen Mona Charen's work in the Phila Inquirer in the past. Although they'll occasionally pick up a more conservative opinion piece, it's rare to see anything even vaguely critical of the Clintons or big-shot Dems.

Perhaps things are changing though. The Inquirer has had a major decline in circulation in the past couple of years, and they recently announced some changes - new editor, I think.

I have a friend who is a complete, left-wing, Clinton fund raising liberal. He had pictures of Clinton and himelf on his walls. He campaigned feverishly for Gore. Other than his political leanings, I really like the guy. He's smart and at least he listens to the other side. Last time I saw him, I took him to a Prayer Breakfast which featured Alan Keyes. Anyway, I hadn't spoken to him for many months. I got a call from him today and he told me that he completely loves GW. Thinks he's doing a great job. Says that it's a job he was born to do. I was SHOCKED. God works in mysterious way.

I was thinking tonight of all the money the Clinton's wasted on themselves and their cohorts. Money totaling in the millions. Money that came from our military budget and God alone knows where else. An eight-year exercise in pampering themselves and their sycophants at our expense.

Money that could help pay for those unemployed from the recession that began with the Justice Department's temporary victory in court against Microsoft last year.
Money that could have helped rebuild the Pentagon and clean up the World Trade Center site.
Money that could help pay the medical costs of those who were injured on 9/11 along with the rescue workers who have experienced medical problems because of their bravery.

It's a shame! It should be an embarrassment but not to the Clintons. What do they do when they leave office?

They took as much with them as possible. To this day we do not know what they took from the White House. We probably never will. Oh you say they gave it all back? Ha!

What about after leaving office. We now have to pay the highest office rent in history for an ex-President.

The most expensive Presidential Library ever is being built. (And let's not forget that a black historical building was knocked down while the matter was still in dispute so X42 could have his groundbreaking ceremony.

Yes, Bill Clinton might have regrets all right, but nothing like the ones the people of America should be having about now.

Now if only they would open their eyes to the true of Hillary...

BOTH of them, are truly CLINICALLY pathological, IMNSHO.

That sort of thinking gives them somewhat of an excuse, and does disservice to those with true mental problems. No my friend, they are just plain evil. Every evil act they do, everything they say is calculated with a predetermined end game which is always for them and only them.

They are not truely upset about what happened on 9/11 or the effects on those affected or by the country. Only how they can take advantage of the sorrow experienced by others while not having to actually do anything to help that requires effort or patriotism.

They are just evil, nothing less.

Let us get REAL here. We all knew that the Clinton's were evil scum before the first election. Half of this country IS brain dead, or completely apolitical and would vote for satan himself if it would put money in their pocket. Our population has been dumbed down for 30 years already, and no end in sight.
