Perry leads Sanchez, Texas Poll indicates
By JAY ROOT, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, 12/08/01
AUSTIN - Republican Gov. Rick Perry has never enjoyed higher approval ratings and would crush Democrat Tony Sanchez if the two candidates faced off in an election today, the latest Scripps-Howard Texas Poll says.
Perry's approval ratings rose to 67 percent, his all-time high. Registered voters in the survey favored Perry over Sanchez 48 percent to 18 percent. The poll, conducted for the Star-Telegram and other media outlets, has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Yeah, but in a race against Ron Kirk, does the poll factor in conservatives, whites, and hispanics sitting on their duffs election day, while 90% of blacks and the deceased cram the ballot boxes?

Subtitle this one "Dem Hopes Dim".

Wasn't Sanchez supposed to be the Dem's "Great Brown Hope"?

Sanchez has potential in texas because he openly supported president bush. however the democrats, the few liberal ones here, are against him because of it. so it looks good for perry. most texans are conservative, even our democrats, except for the big cities of course. so chances are the austin liberals will go against sanchez as they are openly grumbling and thus help perry in the general election.

Kirk is running for Phil Gramm's senate seat. So, I don't really know why he was brought in a thread about Perry and Snachez.

He is the black former mayor of Dallas. He is a total idiot. He butchers the English language.

A local conservative talk host here had a tape of him leading the pledge of allegiance and he didn't know the words.

There is no way he will be the next senator from Texas.

March 12, 2002 is Primary election day so we aren't but about 3 months away from the candidate selection.

Kirk is also crooked to the core. Hopefully, Cornyn or Kirk's Rat primary opponents will bring up the sleazy conflicts of interest involving Mrs. Kirk and the city manager in the negotiations to build the new basketball arena.

If the Houston mayoral election was any indication, Tony Sanchez has a good chance of getting elected because Hispanics will pull the lever for anyone with a Spanish last name. If Kirk is on the ticket with Sanchez, the polling booths will be teeming with angry, bitter minorities.

Perry is a RINO - he signed a law that lets illegal aliens from Mexico pay less tuition than nonresident taxpayers from Louisiana. Too bad Phil Gramm doesn't want to be governor.
