Don't lie. It happened at 10pm. This is less than a cost of living increase. (YAWN) I suppose you would rather be governed by the likes of Hillary, Cantwell, Kennedy, Corzine and Rockefeller. The ones that don't need the pay. Pathetic.

I'd rather they just take the money and stay at home about 11 and 1/2 months a year. Anything they need to do actually mandated by the US Consittution could be handled in less than two weeks. No one is safe when these fools are in session doing the "peoples business".

I would also like to see them live on military pay and get a mere 5% pay raise while they are under combat situations for most of the year. They don't deserve the raise. Their preformance in both parties and houses is pathetic. Why do they deserve it? For thinking up new ways to subvert the constitution?

BTW if they want more money they can go back to their careers. For example Frist can go back to being a doctor and Thompson an actor. The sooner the better IMO.

If congressmen were paid commensurate with their duties and responsibilities, in line with private employment, they would be paid some millions per year. It is poor economy for taxpayers to pay them so little, what we get are men who scheme to make the office pay off in other ways -- at great expense to the taxpayers.

In theory I agree with you. But in reality, there are many in this country who will not only just a raise this year, they will not get paychecks. Regardless of what side of the aisle, I do think it is the job of Congress to set an example and to lead. Especially during a time of National Crisis.
It gives the appearance of not being willing to do without or to make sacrifices. Perhaps it is not a fair expectation, but it is just one more example of our leaders not leading us.

you are nuts---my 'cost of living' from SS came to 2.6% for next year--then my medical insurance went up $28 monthly -more than the lousy increase is--Hope you get old fast and your 401, etc is in a failed company like Enron
