How can we get to GW and tell him how to pronounce "nuclear"?
me

Posted on 12/05/2001 10:07:42 AM PST by cantfindagoodscreenname

I hope this doesn't sound petty, but I just heard Bush say "nook-you-lar" for the word "nuclear" again and it makes me cringe every time he does it. I keep thinking that someone close to him will tell him how to pronounce the word. I always associate the mispronounciation of that word with Democrats, for some reason. Hey! Maybe that's why he does it! It's intentional; he wants the Dems to think he can relate to them!

Is there some way to get the word to him that he's pronouncing it wrong? Please don't flame me. I love our president!

Look I don't care how he says nuclear. The one that bugs me is America (Amurica). It just bugs me for some reason, don't know why. It's not Southern, at least the part of the South I grew up in (NC). We say America.

Are you trying to make him into a fake?Leave him alone, thats what makes W,W.It has never bothered me that he might pronounse something diferantly, thats right diferant, not right or wrong.I would much rather have a president who is himself than one that invents himself, know what I mean vern?

The official pronounciation has now been officially changed, to the way G. W. Bush says it. Why? Because he is the President, and what he says goes, okay?

I can accept that. I guess I misunderestimated the role our president has in the evolution of the English language.

The plural of "y'all" is "all y'all".

He's too old to change now. Learn to love his malaprops, mispronunciations, and mutilated verbalizations. Marvel at his ability to create new words. Hopefully, he'll become a latter day Yogi Berra if the liberal press will stay off his rear.

He's doing a great job and has the gift of strategery.

Arrrgh! That's the way Jimmuh Carter used to say it. And Carter had been through the Navy's nuke school, to boot.

Wait until he uses the word "asterik" instead of "asterisk" -- then I will be REALLY upset.

"I hope this doesn't sound petty..."

Too late.

BTW, I am particularly fond of cheese.

Many of you are saying that it's a Texan thing, but I've heard many people besides Texans mispronounce it, so you can't take credit for it. I'm sorry!

Geez, I am really getting tired of people telling other people how to pronounce nuclear. When this happens I tend to use the irritating pronounciation just for the heck of it. (I will spell potatoe with an E till I die. heh heh Get a life! This is a useless vanity!

Cant...

I have no doubt in my mind that the people that need to know what he is saying, understand him quite well.

This was covered during the campaign and again this summer. Since he obviously can learn to pronounce difficult words (like the name of the President of Pakistan), I am left to conclude that he CHOOSES to pronounce nuclear in this way.

WHY he chooses to do so is the question. Perhaps he WANTS to sound this way...so that:

1. others who pronounce it in the same way identify with him,

and

2. elitist media and dem types will misunderestimate his strategery.

This is how he is going to say it. Just get used to it. By 2008 you will be saying it the same way. LOL!

How should he pronounciate it?

If that is a trick question, the answer is "it". If it's a serious question, the answer is "nook-lee-ar".
