One factor in the third general terror alert raised in the United States since the September 11 relates according to US media, to intelligence information indicating the the former Saudi terrorist Osama bin Laden has gained possession of a so-called dirty or radiological bomb. The target date referred to in electronic intercepts is Mid-December. It has also been suggested that such weapons may have smuggled into the United States.
On Oct. 12 DEBKA-Net-Weekley reported from its intelligence sources that Bin Laden had almost certainly procured a supply of uranium -235 six months before the September 11 suicide attacks. The uranium was believed to have reached him in a multimillion deal with a Ukranian-born mobster called Semion Mogilevich.
DEBKA-Net- Weekley came back to the subject more recently on November 30, in another exclusive report:RADIATION POISIONING BETRAYS MULE
In the first week of October, Pakastani arrested on immigration charges in the course of the FBI investigation into the September 11 suicide attacks, complained of bleeding gums and pain, symptoms of gingivitis. He was treated with antibiotics, but was found dead in his cell in Hudson Couty jail in Kearny, New Jersey, three weeks later.
The cause of death was not released, any more than the dead man's identity.
DEBKA-Net Weekley's medical experts note that the bleeding gums the anonymous Pakistani was treated for are a symptom of radiation poisioning, suggesting he might have been a 'mule' transporting nuclear materials or devices into America. (A subsequent investigation revealed that he had contracted gingivitis in a result of radiation-induced lukemia)
This explanaion would imply that more than one such carrier is employed by al Qaeda to smuggle nuclear materials or devices into the United States, Western Europe and the Middile East, their mission being to plant their deadly burders in pre-arranged secret locations, ready for activation.
I guess we shall see what the story is. I do know that the Secretary of Defense is not outright dismissing some type of radiation or nuclear attack from Al Qaeda and/or other associated terrorists. Therefor I do not dismiss this as a possibility.
Stay well - stay safe - Stay armed - Yorktown
DEBKA kind of lost my respect when they said that the USMC does its desert warfare training in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Yes. It is known among the French as "Le Feu du Fromage Horrible," translated; The Horrible Fire of Cheese. Intelligence reports say that Osama has gotten hold of combustible curds and may now be developing a " Dirty Cheese Bomb." This does not bode well for our troops on the ground. One dirty cheese bomb will turn the whole operation into one giant cluster-fondu.
Since DEBKA is (as usual) so wrong on the details, and since the story hinges on the so-called mystery of Mohammad Butt, I must assume that the rest of the story is equally sloppy and a flat out fabrication.
Unless the FBI, the INS judge, INS personnel, the police, jail guards, the coroner, and the county prosecutor are all in conspiracy and lying, which I don't think is the case.

Mohammad Butt was detained Sept. 19 and initially questioned by FBI agents about the hijacked airplanes that struck the World Trade Center on Sept. 11.
FBI Turns Him Over to INS
When the FBI decided that Butt was not of "interest" to their investigation, the bureau turned him over to the Immigration and Naturalization Service because he had overstayed his visa.
He then accepted an immigration judge's decision to deport him to Jhelum, in the Punjab region of Pakistan.
"He didn't have a hearing. He waived his hearing," said Russ Bergeron, an INS spokesman in Washington.
"He simply wanted to be sent back home."
He was awaiting his travel documents when his cellmate looked in on him on his jailhouse bunk at 11:05 a.m. Tuesday. He was not stirring.
Authorities said there were no visible signs of injury or trauma. A nasal swab was taken to learn if he had possibly been a victim of anthrax poisoning; he was not.
He had complained about a gum disease and was being treated with antibiotics, jail officials said. They said his heart gave out.
Terrence Hull, a first assistant prosecutor in Hudson County, said a death certificate will be filed once final toxicology results are completed in a month or more.
"We had difficulty in trying to notify his next of kin, and we did that finally through the consulate's office," Hull said.
Asad Hayauddin, an embassy spokesman, said his government is accepting the finding of heart failure "until we hear otherwise."
Yeah, it seems that radiation poisoning would include far more than bleeding gums followed by death from heart attack. Typical symptoms include:
God Bless America
December 9th, the beginning of Hannakuh.
December 12th, the Feast of the People (the Lady of Guadelupe (sp?)
One is the beginning of the Jewish holiday, the other is a Christian holiday. I don't know whether DEBKA is credible or not but isn't this a war against Christians and Jews?
Which in itself is kind of odd. If I was a radical terrorist captured by the forces of the Great Satan, I don't think a touch of gingivitis would be the top of my concerns.
Unless of course it was pretty severe.
That doesn't mean of course that he had access or control of a supply of U-235. That'd be far more dangerous then having access to a load of radioactive waste. But at minimum it suggests that Al-Quaeda potentially has a dirty bomb at its' disposal, or at worse, a Hiroshima type bomb.
If they do anything Dec. 12-13th, it will be fun to see the assassinations.
The one thing the Saudis are scared of are the Aga Khan's people.
Really.
Actually, I think you guys have it backwards. U-238 is fairly stable uranium, and relatively common. Bombarding it with neutrons will not generate a nuclear reaction.
U-235 is unstable, and extremely rare in nature. In fact, the only way to obtain (as far as I know) is to separate it from sources that mostly contain U-238. But because it is unstable, it can be used to generate nuclear reactions.
If I can find a source to confirm this, I'll post it.
It was also reported in the UK in Guardian, but they spelt his name wrong.
Apparently the Ukraine is a very scary place.
