I've just spent two hours cleaning it up. I have too many idiot users who can't remember not to open strange attachments.

The subject is "Hi" and the message text is:
---
How are you ?
When I saw this screen saver, I immediately thought about you
I am in a harry, I promise you will love it!

People who want to avoid attachment-borne virii but must use Microsoft LookOut should click here:
http://office.microsoft.com/ProductUpdates/
And download this patch:
Outlook 2000 SR-1: Extended E-mail Security Update (English version)
This will block executable attachments like .EXE, .VBS, .SCR et. al and cuts way down on the likelihood of infection.

It just wiped out Outlook in our department, and we're all on Macs. This must be a bad one. 8-(

I contend that the vast majority of idiots who open attachements like this are chicks. They all send themselves so many stupid emails all day long that they could not possibly identify which are real and which aren't.

Yep, we are getting hammered here at work today by this virus. I've recieved about a hundred of these things in my Inbox, but my Macafee Vshield has taken it out before it could do any damage. Unfortunatly, we have a lot of users who DISABLE their virus scanners in order to increase the performance of their computers.

Hey Topher - thanks for this link and post ! We had one of our sales reps get this virus today.

I'm a system administrator for a company in seattle and we got hit with this sucker early this morning. Now the pisser is that last week I setup my Norton for exchange server to block executable attachments with .scr being one of them. This way I wouldn't have to worry about getting hit with an unknown virus. It seems as though the ONLY executable entry I screwed up on was the .scr one. I had forgotten to add the wildcard so instead of *.scr I had .scr.

We had two people open this up. They decided to go to web sites with anonymous email accounts and open it from there as this thing died a horrible death as soon as it started trying to crawl through our mail network.
Not too bad .... but the guys that got hit in our building (1000+ staff) were IT staff (project manager and software developer of all people)
They'll never live this one down :)

I received the email but I didn't download anything and I deleted it do I have the virus? Anyone know?

I've been trying to help my best friend's girlfriend remove two viruses, one of which is this one. Her computer is 50 miles away from me, a different OS than I use, and something weird is going on with it. Apparently WinME (gag!) is protecting the infected file or something. I may have to drive over there this weekend.f
